Midwestern State is eager to make its biennial road trip to Silver City, New Mexico, for a match with Western New Mexico, and the Mustangs will also be playing UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, before coming back home to face St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s. The Mustangs improved their home record to 4-3 — and are 7-8 overall — after sweeping Sul Ross State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last week. Midwestern State begins the week tied with four other schools in the LSC that all have 1-3 records in conference play, including Western New Mexico. UT Permian Basin is one of four teams that has opened the conference campaign with a 2-2 record.

Midwestern State rebounded from an embarrassing 5-0 loss at St. Edward’s with a 5-2 win over Texas A&M International at Stang Park on Saturday night. Mere Escobar scored the third hat trick of his career and has the sixth most goals among NCAA Division II players this season with 10. Escobar also has 54 career goals at MSU and is four shy of tying Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson for the all-time school record for most goals scored wearing the Maroon & Gold.  The Mustangs are on the road Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match at UT Tyler and return home for a Saturday afternoon fixture against Oklahoma Christian. It’s the final Saturday match at Stang Park, and an impressive group of seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the program before the 2 p.m. kickoff.

Midwestern State is 6-1-2 following a pair of draws last week at Texas Woman’s and at home against Angelo State. The Mustangs rallied from a two-goal deficit with two second-half strikes at TWU. MSU overcame one-goal deficits twice against Angelo State, which had not conceded a goal in its previous five games, but Madison Brinkley and Isabella Cruz scored for the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. Brinkley leads MSU with six goals this season and is third in the conference. MSU travels to Eastern New Mexico for a midweek match on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. CDT. St. Mary’s visits the Stang Gang for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday. The Rattlers and Mustangs have four of the top seven points leaders in the LSC. Brinkley and Cassidy Savoy each have 12 points for MSU, and St. Mary’s is led by Shelby Paniagua and Malia Dominguez, who also have 12 points apiece for the Rattlers.

Midwestern State faced a talented team at Dallas Baptist on Wednesday night after the Mustangs experienced a disappointing finish against Lubbock Christian over the weekend. In the first set at DBU, the Mustangs hit .192, and they finished the match hitting .219 in the third set. MSU hit .157 for the entire match and fell to 0-3 to start off the conference campaign. The Stang Gang is back under the dome on Friday night, hosting LSC newcomer Sul Ross. The Mustangs defeated the Lobos at the LSC Challenge in Portales, New Mexico, last month 25-18, 25-17, 25-21. One lucky student in attendance will win a pair of Beats Pro Studio Wireless Headphones. To be entered into the drawing, students must scan their CORQ event pass at the ticket counter.

Midwestern State looks to rebound from its 27-3 loss to UT Permian Basin as they travel to Texas A&M Kingsville for a clash with the 3-1 Javelinas, who are coming off a 56-21 victory over Sul Ross State. TAMUK lost its season opener to Colorado Mesa, 16-13, but has a three-game winning streak as they welcome the Mustangs to Javelina Stadium. Midwestern State will have to overcome an injury to starting quarterback Sean Jastrab as the offense looks for a spark after being held to three points against the Falcons and fell to 2-2 with a 1-1 record in the Lone Star Conference.

Midwestern State remains unbeaten and has reeled off four consecutive victories after defeating rivals West Texas A&M and St Mary’s in non-conference confrontations last week. Through the non-conference portion of the season, the Stangs are 5-0-2 with a 3-0-0 record at home. MSU defeated West Texas A&M, 2-1, as Mere Escobar had a goal and an assist in the triumph. The Mustangs kept their winning streak intact with a 2-0 victory at St. Mary’s. Tea Cooper scored his first collegiate goal, and Tristan Adams scored his fifth career goal —his first since Nov 1, 2022 —as goalkeeper Jakob Stone secured his second clean sheet of the season at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio. The boys are back on the bus to face St. Edward’s in the conference opener at Lewis-Chen Family Field in Austin, Texas on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. and return home to face Texas A&M International at Stang Park on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Midwestern State is 6-1-0 overall and has opened up the conference campaign with a 2-0-0 record following a pair of 2-1 wins. The first victory in LSC play came at Lubbock Christian as freshman Madison Brinkley and Tyler Junior College transfer Nyxalee Munoz scored for the Mustangs. Munoz scored her second game-winning goal in the 84th minute. The veteran Mustangs came through against UT Tyler at Stang Park against UT Tyler. Senior Lexi Beck had a goal and an assist, while Cassidy Savoy scored her fourth goal of the season and her second game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 84th minute.  This week, Midwestern State visits Texas Woman’s on Wednesday and hosts Angelo State on Saturday. The match at Pioneer Soccer Park on Wednesday night kicks off at 7 p.m. The Rambelles are at Stang Park for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday afternoon.

Midwestern State dominated the LSC Volleyball Preview in Portales, New Mexico, reeling off straight-set wins over Eastern New Mexico, Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State. The Mustangs are 6-5 through 11 non-conference matches, but the conference campaign begins in earnest this week with No. 14 Angelo State visiting D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Friday night at 6 p.m., and Lubbock Christian taking the floor to face the Mustangs on Saturday at 2 p.m.

First-year head coach Rich Renner breaks down the Mustangs as they begin a new era and vie for the Lone Star Conference Championship.

Midwestern State opened conference play with a 36-15 win at Eastern New Mexico as Devin Cross and Jalen March combined to rush for 286 yards on 36 carries, and the Mustangs forced four turnovers. Ryan Melton had two interceptions and returned one 59 yards for a touchdown. MSU scored 20 points off turnovers, and placekicker Joseph Carlson booted a school-record five field goals in the victory. The Mustangs return home for the first time since Aug. 29 to face LSC rival UT Permian Basin on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Midwestern State earned two victories as it hosted the MSU Soccer Fall Festival this past week. In the home opener on Thursday, the Mustangs won a bruising battle against Fort Hays State, 3-1. Two nights later the Stangs had a dominating performance and defeated Southern Nazarene, 2-0. The Mustangs wrap up a three-match homestand at Stang Park on Wednesday night in a renewal of the US 287 derby. MSU takes on West Texas A&M at 7 p.m.  The squad then travels to San Antonio to face St. Mary’s on Saturday at 5 p.m. Neither match counts in the conference standings.
