Midwestern State had its schedule thrown askew by rainy weather in Tyler, and the Mustangs faced Dallas Baptist on Saturday before battling the UT Tyler Patriots on Tuesday. The women stumbled at Dallas Baptist but pulled out a thrilling 4-3 victory over the UT Tyler Patriots. The men swept their way to a 7-0 win at Dallas Baptist but suffered an agonizing 4-3 loss in Tyler. The Mustangs are set to renew the Red River Rivalry with Cameron at the MSU Tennis Center on Thursday. The doubles matches begin the dual at noon. Linn reviews all the action from the past week and looks ahead to the battle with the Aggies.

Midwestern State tennis teams are on a roll. The women have won their last three dual-matches and improved to 5-1 in conference play with wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. The women are 7-1 at home this season. The men have also reeled off three consecutive victories and are undefeated with four wins in the Lone Star Conference. The men’s team is 6-2 on home soil. Both teams are on the road this week to face UT Tyler and Dallas Baptist. Linn discusses the contributions of his players on both teams and responds to Kim Mulkey’s comments following the LSU win over Iowa in the Division I women’s championship basketball game. “I think a lot of these personalities, coaches want to be scared of. I’m not afraid of that. I played with personalities in college. I played with a personality myself. They just are ballers,” Mulkey said.

Midwestern State earned its first road win of the season by defeating Oklahoma Christian in the final game of their three-game series. The Mustangs erupted with four runs in the top of the seventh inning and handed the Eagles a 6-4 defeat. The series started on a weird note with a power failure and a fire near the Oklahoma Christian campus. This week, MSU welcomes Eastern New Mexico to Mustangs Park for a three-game set that begins with a doubleheader on Thursday at 2 p.m. The series wraps up Friday with a game at 1 p.m. Talley also discusses the recent NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship game and shares her thoughts on the contentious conclusion in Dallas.

The men defeated the Chaparrals in a grueling dual at Lubbock on Tuesday and are 2-0 conference play. Linn discusses recent matches and looks ahead to two dual-matches at MSU Tennis Center this week. The Mustangs host Western New Mexico on Friday at 10 a.m., and UT Permian Basin is visiting Midwestern State on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Talley breaks down some of the pivotal moments in the two one-run victories and explains how the Mustangs turned things around against ace pitcher Alyssa LeBlanc, who was the winning pitcher for TWU on Saturday but lost the rubber game on Sunday. Sydney Shimkus is a hot hitter, and she is forcing the head coach to find a spot for her in the lineup. Shimkus has a four-game hitting streak and has seven hits in her last six games.  The sophomore played second base this past week and posted her fifth multi-hit game. Talley looks ahead to the upcoming series with Oklahoma Christian.

Zoe Isom threw a complete game and Midwestern State pulled out a 2-1 victory over UT Permian Basin this past weekend. Isom also delivered at the plate. The sophomore from Midlothian, Texas, was 1 for 2 with a double and scored a run in the victory. Freshman Allie Monroe was 4 for 10 during the series with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored during the three-game set. Monroe leads the Mustangs with 32 total bases and an OPS of .948. This week, Brittanie Talley is getting the Mustangs ready to face the No. 4 team in the nation. UT Tyler is 25-4 overall and leading the LSC with a 13-2 record. The Patriots are led by pitcher Tatum Goff, who is 16-0 with a 1.33 ERA, and centerfielder JT Smith from Decatur. Smith is a .427 hitter with five home runs and 14 RBIs for UT Tyler. Smith leads the conference with a 1.406 OPS.
