Midwestern State has reloaded for the upcoming season, and the Mustangs are ready to kick off the 2023 campaign. MSU is traveling to Salt Lake City for a pair of matches against RMAC opponents. Midwestern State opens against Westminster at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and returns to Drumke Field on Saturday for a match with Colorado Mesa that is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. Meachum is anxious to see how the boys perform after some rigorous training sessions leading up to the season opener.

The Mustangs hosting the Midwestern State Invitational to begin the season, and MSU takes on Southwestern Oklahoma in the opening match. Midwestern State is ready to kick off its season at Stang Park as the Mustangs host MSU Denver on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. This year’s squad has an interesting mix of young players and experienced veterans. Spence reveals the strength of this year’s team entering the campaign and discusses the first two matches of the season. MSU is on the road Saturday for a 7 p.m. clash with Central Oklahoma, which reached the NCAA Division II Tournament for the 15th time in 24 seasons last year and finished with an 11-5-4 record.

The Mustangs have returned from their trip to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where they won all five games and lifted the trophy at the Buddha's Light International Association Cup University Basketball Tournament. 

Midwestern State defeated National Chengchi of Taiwan, 87-84, in the championship game after posting wins over Shih Hsin (Taiwan), Malaysia Select, Nagoya Gakuin (Japan) and Lincoln (New Zealand).

Pierre Sanders scored 28 points in the championship game, and the senior guard from Hutto, Texas, earned the BLIA Cup MVP Trophy.

Duncan Alevok opened the tournament by hitting 8-of-9 shots from the field and scoring 16 points in a 78-63 win over Shih Hsin. Alevok, a 6-10 forward from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a special guest on this StangGang podcast.

The Mustangs are representing the United States in Kaohsiung, a thriving international metropolis in southern Taiwan. The unique event features collegiate teams from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia and China. MSU is allowed 10 additional practices to prepare for the foreign summer tour, and team building has begun.

The trip is designed to help Midwestern State achieve its ultimate goal of winning the Lone Star Conference, but the trip is about more than basketball.

Midwestern State head men’s and women’s tennis coach Scott Linn discusses the challenges his teams face week-in and week-out, and the on-court battles throughout the course of the season.

Midwestern State men and women’s tennis teams are both returning to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th consecutive season. The women are making their 22nd appearance in the postseason, and the men are in the field for the 20th time. The women were upset in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament by upstart Lubbock Christian, and the men were denied a sixth consecutive berth in the final with a loss to Cameron in the semifinals. The men now visit UT Tyler on Friday at 10 a.m., and the women travel to Lawton, Oklahoma, for a postseason clash with Cameron.

Midwestern State closed out its road schedule by winning the series at Western New Mexico as the bats came to life in Silver City. Jessika Roberts was 7 for 12, including a four-hit game, and homered twice in the series. Kerris Cameron homered in both games of a doubleheader, and Bailey Brenek blasted a grand slam in a five-run second inning as MSU closed the series with a 7-2 victory after winning the opener, 4-3. Kennedy Cameron and Zoe Isom both picked up wins in the circle for Midwestern State. The season comes to a close — and four seniors will be honored — as Midwestern State hosts St. Edward’s at Mustangs Park on Friday and Saturday.

Midwestern State closed out the regular season with duals against Cameron and Arkansas-Fort Smith at MSU Tennis Center this past week. The women’s tennis team is the No. 2-seed in the upcoming LSC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament and faces Lubbock Christian on Thursday in the quarterfinals. The men are seeded No. 3 for the LSC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. The men play the final quarterfinal dual at noon on Thursday. Linn discusses the expectations and the preparation for the postseason.
