Ella Pando broke up Dallas Baptist's bid for a perfect score while leading the Mustangs to a runner-up showing in the Orville Rogers XC Opener, and Midwestern State had four runners enter the chute side-by-side en route to a perfect 15-point sweep in the Mustang Derby at River Creek Golf Course in Burkburnett, Texas, last week. Jadyn Dangerfield and Jaycee Lyons earned weekly accolades. Dangerfield garnered LSC Runner of the Week, while Lyons was named LSC Freshman Runner of the Week. MSU is now preparing for the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree, one of the nation's oldest races. The meet on Sept. 23 will take place at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course, which recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation.

Midwestern State was a disgruntled team after squandering so many chance in a 2-2 draw against Rogers State, but the Mustangs responded by routing the Roadrunners of MSU Denver, 5-0. Mere Escobar has scored a goal in all four matches this season and leads the Lone Star Conference with four goals and three assists. Escobar and the 3-0-1 Mustangs are preparing to make their first-ever visit to Fort Hays State before traveling to Bethany, Oklahoma, for a match with Southern Nazarene on Saturday as MSU looks to remain unbeaten.

Midwestern State scored twice in the second half to pull out a 2-1 victory over Western Colorado after Fort Lewis stung the Mustangs, 3-0, in their first match at Gunnison, Colorado, last weekend. MSU has two non-conference matches remaining, including a battle with Oklahoma Baptist at Stang Park. Eight seniors will be recognized before the match. The non-conference season ends on Sunday as the Mustangs journey to Weatherford, Oklahoma, for a clash with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Central Oklahoma defeated MSU in three sets, but the Mustangs swept their way past Western Colorado in their finale. Junior transfer Riley Rabedeaux hit .342 over the weekend, and freshman Isabella Dickens hit .333. Both players were part of the all-tournament team. The Mustangs are on the road to play four matches this weekend against Washburn, Northwest Missouri State, Missouri Western and William Jewel. Radecki reflects on a successful weekend and looks ahead to the year’s first road trip.

Maskill begins his 22nd season at Midwestern State with a brand new coaching staff and will start a quarterback that has not previously taken a snap in a game for MSU as the Mustangs visit Colorado State-Pueblo in the season opener on Saturday night at 7 p.m. (CDT). Maskill talks about the challenges his team is facing and discusses what he has learned about his team through the excruciating practices in the Texas heat. Maskill has won nearly 71 percent of his games at Midwestern State and is 18-3 in season openers, but the Thundewolves defeated MSU at Memorial Stadium in a Week 1 clash last year, 59-27.
