After three weekends on the road, playing a total of 12 matches, the Mustangs make their first regular season appearance at home this week. Midwestern State welcomes St. Edward’s to D.L. Ligon Coliseum for the conference opener on Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday at noon, MSU hosts St. Mary’s in another LSC matchup.

Midwestern State remained perfect through five matches by winning twice in the MSU Classic at Stang Park last week, including a 1-0 victory over No. 12-ranked Fort Hayes State. The Mustangs continued their winning ways with a 3-0 triumph over Southern Nazarene. MSU opens up the conference schedule with a highly anticipated match against West Texas A&M on Wednesday night at The Pitch in Canyon. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Midwestern State continued its strong start to the season by winning the Cameron Aggie Duel at the Big Green Soccer Complex in Lawton, Okla. Cori Morgan came within four seconds of claiming her first collegiate win by settling for a runner-up finish covering the 5K course in 18:48.00. It was the first team meet win for the Mustangs since claiming the season opening Endurance House Stampede ran at the Wee-Chi-Tah Trail in 2019. Midwestern State competes in the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin.

Despite muggy conditions and a muddy course, MSU managed a second-place showing, led by Alexandra Feller, Cori Morgan, Mariana Sanchez and Elizabeth Butzke. The Mustangs had an unusual week with a game against Southwestern Oklahoma rescheduled for Sept. 20 because of a gloomy weather forecast, and a non-conference match with TWU was suspended in the 67th minute because of lightning. Before play was suspended on Sunday afternoon, Cassidy Savoy and the Mustangs were threatening to break up the 0-0 draw. MSU will be home on Thursday and face Northwest Oklahoma at 4 p.m.

The Mustangs are prepared to compete in their first meet of the season as they travel to Grand Prairie, Texas, for the DBU Orville Rogers XC Opener at Lynn Creek Park. Elizabeth Butzke and Alexandra Feller are expected to lead the Maroon & Gold in the 5K event that gets underway Saturday at 8:15 a.m.
