Episode 8 Dirty Rice

Eric Rice has been performing in Blues and Rock clubs for over 20 years. When he was old enough to get into the clubs he burst in like a pit bull sniffin' for blood. Insisting on finding the jam sessions and kicking down the doors he made his way into the Spokane Blues scene. In the 90's there still was one that thrived due to the popularity of his friends Too Slim and the Taildraggers, DK Stewart, Yo and DeCats and of course his own JR Boogie. JR was on top of the heap with a 7 piece horn band with a ton of energy and attitude until he moved to Seattle looking for a bigger pond to swim in. He continued with the name JR Boogie and forged his way into the blues scene in Seattle where he is today. "I love Seattle. The weather is cool and the music scene thrives!" he says. Eric opened for many national blues acts such as Edgar Winter, Robin Ford, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Jr. Wells, Long John Baldry, Anson Funderberg to name a few.

Dirty Rice the latest creation. Eric has been playing all over the NW in many diferent bands over the past few years such as Charles White, Fat James, Sweet Talkin' Jones and Barfly after he disbanded JR Boogie. Now we are going to get Dirty Rice rolling with Scotty Harris on bass and Keylin Mayfield on drums. We're pleased to have such fabulous Seattle talent in the band and can assure you our sound is polished and full of the drivin' groove  we are known for. Episode 7 CD Woodbury Band

C.D. Woodbury has performed in Texas Roadhouses and in Stadiums. He has performed for two US Presidents, foreign dignitaries, and Jimi's music for the Hendrix family. He has jammed with jazz legends, international blues stars, and has worked with sidemen to the biggest rock acts. Though he has played many styles, he always returns to the blues and American roots music on his guitar.

In 2009, the C.D. Woodbury Band was formed primarily out of an unrehearsed appearance at the Snohomish Blues Invasion with CD and former members of Tim Casey's back-up band, the Bluescats. The Bluescats were one of the top acts in the region and a top selling act in Europe, including edging Eric Clapton to be the number 1 blues act in Belgium one year somewhere in the mid-2000's. Chris Kliemann, Don Montana, and Mike Fish are a dynamic, tight rhythm section.

In 2010, the Band added sax player and multi-instrumentalist Mike Marinig, who has added a new dimension to the band's sound. The band won the New Band Award at the Washington Blues Society's annual Best of the Blues Awards, and CD won the Electric Guitar award. This was soon followed by a blistering set at Sunbanks Blues Festival, now recorded and available on CD.

In 2011, the WBS gave CD Woodbury the Electric Guitar B.B. Award for the second year in a row. With more festival appearances, radio airplay, and press, the band is gaining attention as rising stars in the NW regional blues scene.

The CD Woodbury Band plays a mixture of new interpretations of old favorites, obscure jems, and original songs.

Episode 6 Jumpin Josh and Cloud Chowder

Jumpin Josh Bio

Jumpin Josh is a true bluesman with talent beyond his years. He has had the privilege of taking guitar lessons from Nicole Fournier, an award winning guitarist, singer, and songwriter. To see his progress in the last year only makes you wonder what lies ahead for this true blues spirit.

Jumpin Josh has been fortunate enough to play with greats such as Randy Oxford, Billy Stoops, Ian Crawford, Michael Miller Band, Mark Whitman and “BIG”, Ms. Peaches, Malcolm Clark, Ben Rice Band, as well as many other great Northwest talents.

Jumpin Josh’s first stage experience was at Jazzbones in Tacoma where he appears regularly at Randy Oxford’s Thursday night Blues Theater, an all ages jam. His venues range from blues festival such as Rockcut, Mt. Baker, Portland Waterfront, Ashland, Suncadia, Out to Lunch Concert Series, and special guest for various charitable events.

He had the pleasure of playing with legends such as Roy Gains, Bobby Rush, Joey Gilmore, and Dennis Jones among others on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise last October in the Mexican Riviera , where he appeared nightly in the Crow’s Nest. Jumpin Josh also plays blues harmonica and was fortunate enough to meet and play with harmonica great Lee Oskar.

Jumpin Josh will definitely play a big part in the "next generation of the blues".

Cloud Chowder Bio

Formed in August 2011. TJ and Ryan had played together in the first (and probably last) Emerald Ridge High School blues band The Stoney Lonesomes, a project brought to life by TJ and guitarist Jake Moorhead. After graduation the band split up. TJ and Ryan then began plans to form a new band and began looking for a bass player. The search didn't last long. TJ and Ryan where already aware of Grant Rieke who was the younger brother of Ben Rieke who TJ sang with in the choir. After contacting Grant he was immediately on board. Cloud Chowder developed quickly since TJ and Ryan had worked out most of the bugs with The Stoney Lonesomes. After starting as mainly a blues band Cloud Chowder developed into their own style. The band marked the begining for TJ's songwriting. As the voice of the band, TJ brought in a strong folk influence which he had been exposed to since birth thanks to his uncle, singer songwriter Bill Davie. He also brought in blues and jazz influences which had helped develop his singing and guitar playing. Ryan also brought in a jazz influence with his very uniuqe drumming. A very folkie song can be made very interesting with Ryan's jazz style. It was obvious that Grant would fit in perfectly from the first note he played in the garage. He was an excellent viola player and bass was a side instrument he had worked with. He caught up with TJ and Ryan almost instantly and developed a style that fit right in. When you listen to Cloud Chowder you can expect to hear folk songs containing jazz improv, straight blues tunes, a song emerging from nothing or a maybe a Grateful Dead cover.
