Why do Death Troopers sound garbled when they talk? They had their own special encryption to use on missions ensuring enemies or even allies would be unable to understand what they said to one another. They would speak normally through their helmets, it would be transmitted as encrypted audio, and then other Death Trooper helmets would decrypt the communication back into basic. The sinister sounds also added to their intimidating presence, and helped build up the legends surrounding the terrifying troopers, including a rumored link to an Imperial initiative to create zombies. While we only hear Death Troopers speak with the encryption active in Rogue One, Star Wars Rebels showed us that it could be turned off for regular communication in Basic. #starwars #rogueone

How did Ochi’s knife point the way to the vault? The answer is in the novel Shadow of the Sith. Ochi of Bestoon was given the dagger by a Sith cultist, and was instructed to find Rey and bring her to Exegol. While Ochi had been to Exegol before, as seen in the Darth Vader comics, he didn’t know how to get there on his own. He asked for a Wayfinder, and the cultist told him the blade would point the way when the time was right. Over the course of the story Ochi realized that the dagger would absorb the blood of anyone he killed with it, glowing red and revealing hidden Sith writing, kind of like the One ring when it was exposed to fire, except this time the writing didn’t fade away. So the blade was designed to point the way to Exegol, and the clues would only be revealed through blood and death. Some of the Star Wars comics show that Ochi had a nearly identical dagger years prior. I guess we should assume that the two daggers are modeled after one another, but are different. Or maybe Ochi lost that dagger, the Sith enchanted it, and then returned it. #starwars

Is Jango Fett’s armor made of beskar? Yes, we should assume that it is, even though it absolutely does not look like it in some scenes. Mandalorian iron was first mentioned back in 1994, but beskar was far from prominent to Star Wars fans in 2002. Not the way it is now, thanks to The Mandalorian. So in Attack of the Clones, Jango Fett’s costume wasn’t designed for consistency as much as it probably was made for convenience and comfort. There were some deleted shots showing Jango deflecting Mace Windu’s lightsaber with his gauntlets, but Legends sources used to say his armor was made of durasteel. More currently we can say Jango’s armor was made of a beskar alloy. In The Mandalorian, Boba Fett reclaims his armor from Din Djarin, and says it once belonged to his father. I would assume he is wearing the same, repainted set of beskar. #starwars

Mustafar was a small, lava covered planet in the Outer Rim. At least a millennia before the rise of the Empire, it was covered in beautiful plantlife, and humans lived in peace with the Mustafarian people. But the Lady Corvax stole a Mustafarian relic called the Brightstar, believing it would have the power to resurrect her fallen husband. Her misuse of its power spread devastation across the planet, turning it into a wasteland. Mustafar became valued for its ores, and so it became a base for the Techno Union as well as criminal syndicates like Black Sun. It was, of course, the site of Darth Vader’s terrible injuries, and after years of hunting the survivors of Order 66, the Sith Lord returned to build his fortress there. His true purpose was to use the planet’s connection to the dark side of the Force to resurrect his wife. He failed on two separate occasions, but during one attempt he recovered and used the Brightstar. After his failure, its energy was released across Mustafar, and the planet began to slowly heal. Thirty years after his own death, Darth Vader’s grandson, Kylo Ren, would return to the ruins of the fortress during his quest to find the secret path to the Sith world Exegol. #starwars

The Galactic Empire was an oppressive regime that ruled the galaxy with an iron fist under Emperor Palpatine. In private, his true identity was Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord who craved power and thrived thanks to the fear and unrest his reign spread throughout his citizens. While an Imperial Senate still existed, it was little more than an illusion of supposed democracy which Palpatine allowed until his true might could be unleashed. In secret, Imperial engineers constructed the Death Star, a superweapon that could destroy entire planets. When it was completed, the beloved but rebellious planet Alderaan was destroyed as an example to the galaxy. The Empire believed fear of destruction would keep their citizens in line forever, but when freedom fighters destroyed the Death Star, support for the Rebellion surged. When the Emperor went to oversee the construction of a second Death Star, it was also destroyed, and apparently Palpatine along with it. For the following year Imperial leadership floundered and competed with one another. Governor Adelhard took control of his sector, rivaling the power of the Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax, who was posthumously charged with overseeing the Emperor’s contingency plan, Operation Cinder. The Imperial fleet was sent to attack both loyal and rebellious worlds alike, causing natural disasters and killing thousands. The year of terror would culminate at the Battle of Jakku, where the Galactic Empire was finally defeated, and its leadership surrendered. #starwars #galacticempire

Why did Luke’s Force projection kill him? Force projection, also known as doppleganger or similfuturus, first appeared in Star Wars Legends, and was expanded upon by Force users called the Fallanassi. They were known for first achieving Force projection, which required the user to pour their life essence into the Cosmic Force. Which is the aspect of the Force which makes Force ghosts possible. In a sense, creating a Force projection was very similar to the way a Jedi who had become one with the Force would be able to create a physical manifestation of their consciousness. Creating a projection would not result in death for any use, but the further the distance, the more realistic the doppleganger, and the longer it was projected all factored into the difficulty of the technique, and therefore how much of a being’s life essence would be given up to the Cosmic Force itself. #starwars

Why is there a map to Luke Skywalker, anyway? There isn’t really. Not in the sense that Luke left behind clues so he could be found. We learn in The Last Jedi that he wanted to remain hidden. As Han states, it was believed that Luke traveled to the first Jedi temple, which was a secret to the rest of the galaxy. But Lor San Tekka helped Luke start to piece together its location. The information he gathered was able to be cross referenced with data from R2-D2 collected from the Death Star, and the first Jedi temple was found. So it was really a map to Ahch-To, and the Resistance was crossing their fingers hoping Luke would be there. #starwars
