The Justice Department’s No. 2 official has met with Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned former girlfriend of financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The meeting between Maxwell and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is part of a Justice Department effort to cast itself as transparent following backlash from parts of President Donald Trump’s base over an earlier refusal to release additional Epstein records.

"There were a lot of questions and we went all day and she answered every one of them," said David Oscar Markus, Ghislaine Maxwell's attorney.

Maxwell was convicted of helping Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 awaiting trial.

Markus said his team was “thankful” the deputy attorney general came to question Maxwell, calling it a “good day.”

Asked if his client could potentially receive a pardon or see her prison term reduced, Markus said: “There’s no promises yet. So she’s just answering questions for now.”

Las amenazas de China y la indignación por el estancamiento legislativo están dominando el discurso político en Taiwán, mientras los residentes se movilizan a favor y en contra de una campaña para destituir a dos docenas de legisladores del opositor Partido Nacionalista en una votación que se llevará a cabo el sábado.

STORYLINE:

Rapper GloRilla was arrested this week on felony drug charges after “a significant amount of marijuana” was found by police while they investigated a burglary at her home in Atlanta.

GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Woods, voluntarily turned herself in Tuesday and was released on $22,260 bond the same day, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the rapper’s home at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on reports of a burglary. Woods wasn’t present, and had performed during halftime of the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Three suspects entered the home and were stealing items when an occupant of the house fired a weapon at the intruders. The suspects fled the scene and did not appear to have been injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

A drug task force secured a search warrant for the home after deputies noticed a “strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics” while investigating the burglary. The task force discovered marijuana “in plain view inside the master bedroom closet,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Woods was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

The Federal Reserve, known for its tight lips, structured formality and extraordinary power to shape the global economy, opened up a costly building renovation Thursday to reporters and President Donald Trump.

Reporters wound through cement mixers, front loaders, and plastic pipes as they got a close-up view of the active construction site that encompasses the Fed's historic headquarters, known as the Marriner S. Eccles building, and a second building across 20th Street in Washington.

Trump plans to visit the Federal Reserve as his allies scrutinize its expensive building renovations.

It's a highly personal and confrontational escalation of Trump's campaign to pressure the central bank to slash interest rates.

Trump administration officials have used concerns about the Washington building overhaul to cast doubt on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s decision making.

The Trump administration officials are scheduled to inspect the site Thursday. The White House says the Republican president will also be visiting.

Trump has criticized Powell for months because the chair has kept the short-term interest rate the Fed controls at 4.3%. Powell says the Fed wants to see how the economy responds to Trump’s tariffs.

STORYLINE:

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says bases in Indiana and New Jersey can house detained immigrants without affecting military readiness — a step toward potentially detaining thousands of people on bases on U.S. soil.

Hegseth notified members of Congress from both states of the proposal to temporarily house detained immigrants at Camp Atterbury in Indiana, and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey.

President Donald Trump has moved to aggressively detain and deport people in the country illegally, a push that has swept up large numbers of immigrants, including many with no prior criminal records, and forced federal authorities to find places to house them.

Hegseth said the presence of the detainees would not negatively affect the bases’ operations or training. Officials have not said when detainees could begin arriving at the facilities or if other military bases are under consideration.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump’s border czar Tom Homan said there are about 60,000 beds currently available for detained immigrants and the goal is to expand to 100,000.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro attended a religious service in Brasília on Thursday, after the Supreme Court declined to convert court-imposed precautionary measures into preventive detention.

Despite the restrictions, Bolsonaro visited the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, and photos and videos of the visit were posted online.

The incident prompted Justice Moraes to demand clarification regarding the apparent breach of conditions.

Although the Court decided not to order Bolsonaro's preventive detention, Justice Moraes warned that any further violations would lead to immediate arrest.
