STORYLINE:

Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar were determined to walk down the aisle on their wedding day. Even if it meant walking down a flooded one.

On Tuesday, the Barasoain church in Malolos, Bulacan province, Philippines flooded due to heavy rain. Typhoon Whipa had intensified seasonal monsoon rains in the Philippines, bringing widespread flooding.

The couple anticipated the risk of flooding, but instead of letting the weather dampen the mood, they decided to push through.

“I feel that challenges won’t be over. It’s just a test," said Verdillo. "Before we got married, we were in this relationship for 10 years. We have been through a lot. This is just one of the struggles that we’ve overcome.”

Aguilar waded down the aisle with her white dress and wedding train floating behind her through waters almost up to her knees.

Despite the turbulent weather, some family and friends made it to the wedding.

Associated Press footage showed smoke rising over the Deir al-Balah skyline on Tuesday, amid continued Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip.

Israeli strikes killed at least 25 people across Gaza on Tuesday, according to local health officials, as Israel pushed on with a new incursion in the central city of Deir al-Balah, an area that had largely been spared heavy fighting.

One strike hit tents sheltering displaced people in the built-up seaside Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, killing at least 12 people, according to Shifa Hospital, which received the casualties.

The Israeli military said it was not aware of such a strike by its forces.

The dead included three women and three children, Dr. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, director of the hospital told The Associated Press.

Thirty-eight other Palestinians were wounded, he said.

Hamas-led militants abducted 251 people in the Oct. 7 attack that triggered the war and killed around 1,200 people. Fewer than half of the 50 hostages still in Gaza are believed to be alive.

More than 59,000 Palestinians have been killed during the war, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Its count does not distinguish between militants and civilians, but the ministry says more than half of the dead are women and children.

The U.N. and other international organizations see it as the most reliable source of data on casualties.

The family of urban music singer Arturo Suarez burst into tears as they welcomed him home with hugs in Caracas, Venezuela, after he spent months jailed in El Salvador.

A patrol from Venezuela’s intelligence police escorted him to his home.

Suarez, and over 250 other Venezuelan migrants, spent months held in an El Salvador mega-prison which was built to hold alleged gang members in President Nayib Bukele’s war on the country’s gangs.

They were deported by the United States under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, and accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang.

An accusation many of the families like Suarez’ have strongly denied.

Speaking with journalists while surrounded by his family, Suarez denounced beatings and ill treatment by El Salvador’s prison guards.

Many of their families spent months demanding their release, insisting on their innocence.

Suarez’ case gained international attention after videos of his music surfaced online.

The deportees were sent back to Venezuela on Friday after a complex, three-country arrangement that also led to the release of 10 U.S. citizens and permanent residents jailed in Venezuela in exchange for bringing home migrants like Suarez.

STORYLINE:

The installation of a new organ at Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral is nearing completion, giving the 700-year-old biggest temple in the Czech Republic a proper instrument to accompany religious services and concerts.

An international team was working on a three-story scaffolding above the main entrance inside the cathedral on Tuesday to put in place some of the remaining pipes.

The work is scheduled to be complete in late August, followed by the voicing and tuning of the pipes through the end of the year.

"The instrument contains a total of about six thousand pipes, which were made in Mr. Grenzing's organ workshop and then gradually brought here and fitted into the organ as the instrument grew," said Stepan Svoboda, organologist of the Prague Archdiocese.

The public could hear the organ's first sounds on June 15 next year, the feast of St. Vitus, officials said.

The organ contains some 6,000 pipes, ranging in length 7 millimeters (0.28 inches) to 7 meters (23 feet).

The four-manual instrument was build in a workshop of Gerhard Grenzing in El Papiol near Barcelona in Spain.

STORYLINE:

White House Karoline Leavitt says President Donald Trump "continues to be very engaged" in trade discussions heading to Aug. 1 tariff deadline.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Leavitt previewed trade being part of the discussions with the visiting President of the Philippines on Tuesday.

Trump has threatened to impose 20% tariffs on Filipino goods unless the two sides can strike a deal.

"The August 1st deadline is just the really the start date for when the United States of America will begin collecting this revenue from all of the countries around the world who the president has sent these letters to," Leavitt said, adding that more tariff letters could be released before the deadline of Aug. 1.
