"When food and drinks were available before at cheap prices, only 20 to 30 people used to come to the charity kitchen. Now, more than 300 people gather there. When I stand at the charity kitchen, there’s a lot of pushing and hitting — I'm exposed to danger at any moment, especially since I'm pregnant, and there's also the risk of sunstroke. But I bear it and say, 'It's for the sake of my children.' It's a famine now. There’s no bread, no flour — nothing. This food (soup) comes without rice, bread or anything else. We rely on this meal until another charity kitchen distributes food."

STORYLINE:

Tens of Palestinians in Gaza City queued up in long lines around a soup kitchen with their pots, hoping to fill them up with whatever little they could get from the watery tomato soap that has little eggplant pieces in it.

Only the very fortunate of them get eggplants; but for the vast majority, it is just soup.

The queues were neat until the soup started to run out.

People started scrambling with their pots to get some of the soup.

Nadia Mdoukh, a displaced woman living in a makeshift tent together with her husband and three children, said the soup kitchen used to have some 20 to 30 people gathered around it when food used to be available and prices were relatively cheap, but now there are more than 300 gathering to get food from the same soup kitchen.

"When I stand at the charity kitchen, there’s a lot of pushing and hitting — I'm exposed to danger at any moment, especially since I'm pregnant, and there's also the risk of sunstroke. But I bear it and say, 'It's for the sake of my children,'" she said.

"We rely on this meal until another charity kitchen distributes food," Mdoukh added.

"We have confirmed our readiness to consider all requests from our friends in Mozambique on issues related to the need to strengthen their defence capability, strengthen their potential in the anti-terrorist sphere" Lavrov said, during his meeting with Maria Manuela Lucas.

Lavrov also criticised leaders of NATO, referencing its warning that forces could capture Kaliningrad region.

"Any attempts, such as those currently threatened by German defence ministers, for example, stating that they will be ready to kill Russian soldiers. Statements by NATO leaders that they are about to pre-emptively crush the Kaliningrad region. Well, this is probably, for any normal, let alone a normal person, a very alarming signal about the plans being concocted in Brussels, Berlin, and of course in Paris and London," he said.

STORYLINE:

U.S. envoy Tom Barrack met on Tuesday with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri as he continued his visit to Beirut.

Barrack’s visit to Lebanon came amid domestic and international pressure for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah to give up its remaining arsenal after a bruising war with Israel that ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in November.

Hezbollah’s weapons have been one of the principal sticking points since Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000.

Since then, Hezbollah fought two wars with Israel, one in 2006 and the other started a day after Hamas attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The Hezbollah-Israel war, that ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in November left over 4,000 people dead in Lebanon and caused destruction estimated at $11 billion.

In Israel, 127 people, including 80 soldiers, were killed during the war.

Israel has continued to launch near-daily airstrikes in Lebanon that it says are aimed at stopping Hezbollah from rebuilding its capabilities.

Hezbollah has said it will not discuss disarming until Israel stops its strikes and withdraws its forces from all of southern Lebanon.

Maria Manuela Lucas was speaking during a joint news conference with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Lucas said she was hopeful of a peaceful solution in Ukraine and success for the next round of talks.

"Also to say that this conflict has an impact in the continent in terms of food security. There was an initiative in which Russia provided the cereals to us through Ukraine and today we lack this, the fertilizers we also lack of, so it has an impact in our region," she added.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address that there would be another round of talks between Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday.

He added that more details would be announced on Tuesday.
