The prolonged war turned her dream of being a doctor into ashes.

STORYLINE:

With Gaza’s water and sanitation systems decimated by months of war and Israel continuing to block fuel and infrastructure repairs, clean water is in short supply for over 2 million displaced Palestinians.

Many now rely entirely on sporadic truck deliveries.

And when water trucks do turn up, desperate crowds clutching plastic jugs and containers rush to gather around them.

Aya Modallal, a displaced woman, is forced to come to get water as her husband was hit by a bullet while waiting to get water.

“Sometimes we stay four to five days with no water. It is hot and there is a war. The children need to shower and we need to wash them,” she said.

The Associated Press followed Luay Abu Nuqairah, a 31-year-old truck driver from Rafah, as he delivered water.

He has been distributing water to camps since the early days of the war, filling his tank at a desalination plant in Deir al-Balah before heading south.

Nour Mohammad, a Syrian Bedouin from Al-Dour village near Sweida in Syria, left with her children to escape shooting targeting her home.

Washing her clothes by hands in a house under construction in Busra Al Harir near Daraa, Nour said: “We were scared for our children because the bullets were hitting our houses, so we came here.”

Nour is living in one room of an unfinished house that is shared with five families.

The clashes between militias of the Druze religious minority and the Sunni Muslim clans killed hundreds and threatened to unravel Syria's already fragile post-war transition.

According to the United Nations International Organization of Migration, more than 128,000 individuals have been displaced since the clashes began.

The clashes also led to a series of targeted sectarian attacks against the Druze community, followed by revenge attacks against the Bedouins.

A series of tit-for-tat kidnappings sparked the clashes in various towns and villages in the province, which later spread to Sweida city, the provincial capital.

Seif Al-Hajj, another displaced person from Al Dour, came with his family to the same house, carrying only mattresses and his birds.

“People were killed there but we could not reach them. They (Druze) killed a lot, they did a lot, they did everything, they are not afraid of God. We left because we were scared for ourselves, our children and our girls," said Seif Al-Hajj.

Explosions were seen in the night sky above Deir al-Balah, in Central Gaza, Sunday night.

It's the area that the Israeli army had earlier ordered to be evacuated, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee once again.

It's one of the few areas not been invaded with Israeli ground troops.

The evacuation cuts access between the city of Deir al-Balah and the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the narrow enclave.

The announcement comes as Israel and Hamas have been holding ceasefire talks in Qatar, but international mediators say there have been no breakthroughs.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stressed that expanding Israeli military operations in Gaza will pressure Hamas to negotiate, though negotiations have been stalled for months.

The area of Gaza under the evacuation order is also where many international organizations attempting to distribute aid are located.

The organizations did not immediately comment on the evacuation warnings.

Military spokesman Avichay Adraee warned that the military will attack “with intensity” against militants.

He called for residents, including those sheltering in tents, to head to the Muwasi area, a desolate tent camp on Gaza’s southern shore that the Israeli military has designated a humanitarian zone.

STORYLINE:

Residents fled their homes with their belongings on Sunday as Israel's military issued evacuation orders for areas of central Gaza.

The orders cover one of the few places where Israel has rarely operated with ground troops and where many international organizations attempting to distribute aid are located.

The new evacuation orders cut access between the central city of Deir al-Balah and the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the narrow territory. The military also reiterated evacuation orders for northern Gaza.

"This morning, I was surprised to find that there is bombing everywhere, and they dropped evacuation leaflets," said Hassan Abu Azab, a Deir al-Balah resident.

"All of Rafah is under evacuation, and now you have decided that half of Deir al-Balah is under evacuation. Where will we move to?" he asked.

The United Nations has been in contact with Israeli authorities to clarify whether U.N. facilities in the southwestern part of Deir al-Balah are included in the evacuation order, according to a U.N. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the media. The official said that in previous instances, U.N. facilities were spared from evacuation orders.

The latest order covers an area stretching from a previously evacuated area all the way to the Mediterranean coast and will severely hamper movement for aid groups and civilians in Gaza.

Military spokesman Avichay Adraee called for people to head to the Muwasi area, a desolate tent camp on Gaza’s southern coast that Israel's military has designated a humanitarian zone.

The announcement came as Israel and Hamas have been holding ceasefire talks in Qatar, but international mediators say there have been no breakthroughs. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly asserted that expanding Israel's military operations in Gaza will pressure Hamas in negotiations.

STORYLINE:

Residents fled their homes with their belongings on Sunday as Israel's military issued evacuation orders for areas of central Gaza.

The orders cover one of the few places where Israel has rarely operated with ground troops and where many international organizations attempting to distribute aid are located.

The new evacuation orders cut access between the central city of Deir al-Balah and the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the narrow territory. The military also reiterated evacuation orders for northern Gaza.

"This morning, I was surprised to find that there is bombing everywhere, and they dropped evacuation leaflets," said Hassan Abu Azab, a Deir al-Balah resident.

"All of Rafah is under evacuation, and now you have decided that half of Deir al-Balah is under evacuation. Where will we move to?" he asked.

The United Nations has been in contact with Israeli authorities to clarify whether U.N. facilities in the southwestern part of Deir al-Balah are included in the evacuation order, according to a U.N. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the media.
