I did 13 sculptures, and I showed them in Fort Worth, Texas and nobody was ready. In 1978, 79, you could not show if you were a woman."

"When I first made Catalina, I was coming off this depression and saw this piece, this woman coming out of the water, and I saw her as a sculpture. That's why I say I saw this piece. When I see something in my mind, I turn it into a sculpture. I can actually see it finished in my mind. And then I do all the work. So, I saw that woman coming out of the water, breaking through. I saw her breaking through, and I did the life-sized one. And I made one. I had a gallery at the time who said to me, 'How are you going to make a living if you only make one? You have to have at least three.'"

"It wasn't someone who ignited the spark. It was the spark within me that was my saving grace, my lifeline. Things were tough. I had it really hard. I had parents - a mental illness in my family. They didn't want me to do my (art) work. I had to pay for my own college. The art made me happy. The art was something that was inside of me that I just had to do. It saved me, saved me."

I'm like a huge Martin Short fan. I love him so much and it was the coolest experiences just to make new friends with them. It was weird, it's surreal."

"No, he just always made me laugh. I don't know if there's like a specific thing I could pinpoint, but he's on top of that just a kind person. Really, really giving and generous and sweet. That was really, really nice to see."

STORYLINE:

At least 40 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, hospital officials said Wednesday, as international mediators raced to complete a ceasefire deal.

Footage captured from southern Israel close to the border with Gaza on Wednesday showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky from explosions in the territory.

The Israeli military did not comment on specific strikes, but said it had struck more than 100 targets across Gaza over the past day, including militants, booby-trapped structures, weapons storage facilities, missile launchers and tunnels.

Israel accuses Hamas of hiding weapons and fighters among civilians.
