Not so long ago, this glacial lake, nestled in the Vranica Mountain Range, at over 1,600 meters above sea level, was the largest habitat of a unique subspecies, found only in this micro-region of central Bosnia.

But things for the Bosnian alpine newt started to change in the 1950s.

Prokosko Lake and the simple wooden houses clustered around it were historically used as summer homes by local nomadic farmers.

But before long, it started attracting tourists, and that led to a decision to stock this lake with trout.

China on Wednesday said that the succession of the Dalai Lama must follow the process of “domestic search, golden urn drawing and approval by the central government.”

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made those comments in a Beijing news conference after the 14th Dalai Lama said his successor would be found and recognized by his office.

Speaking at prayer celebrations ahead of his 90th birthday on Sunday in India, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism in a recorded statement said “the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue” and the search for a future Dalai Lama should be carried out in “accordance with tradition.”

Mao said that the reincarnation of living buddhas has "lasted for more than 700 years and has formed strict religious rituals and historical settings" that must be followed through.

Beijing has been accusing the 14th Dalai Lama of seeking to separate Tibet from China and severed contact with his representatives since 2010.

Tenzin Gyatso became the 14th reincarnation of the Dalai Lama in 1940.

People never see this part of the artwork. We, of course, use these things to help us make, understand the scale, the line, the texture, the color, the perspective. Lithuania’s defense minister was in the Philippines Wednesday when she said the country's campaign to expose China’s aggression was "impressive."

Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė commended the Philippines for publicizing images of China's increasingly assertive actions in the disputed South China Sea, and said it is “shattering the illusion of China being the peaceful and friendly neighbor."

She urged democratic countries to stand united against an emerging axis of authoritarian countries led by China and Russia.

Šakalienė, who visited Manila for talks aimed at deepening defense ties between Lithuania and the Philippines, also expressed support to a former Filipino senator, Francis Tolentino, who was sanctioned by China on Tuesday.

Šakalienė said she and her family have also been sanctioned by China and banned from entering the Asian nation for her strong criticisms of China’s aggression and human rights record.

“Welcome to the club,” Šakalienė told a small group of journalists, including from The Associated Press.
