The Republicans are looking to seize momentum from a hard-fought vote in the Senate, essentially daring members with concerns to defy Trump and vote against it.

 

The July 4th holiday is fast-approaching -- that is also the self-imposed deadline U.S. President Donald Trump has requested for the bill’s passage.

 

House Speaker Mike Johnson arrived at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.

 

When asked if he was worried about having enough House members fly in in time for a vote, he said, “Yeah.”

 

“I am worried about flights, yeah. We don’t know if we have a full house,” Johnson said.

"My children and I sit outside all day. They are covered in pimples from the heat. When we go to sleep, my husband sprinkles water on them. We fan them with a piece of paper to keep the flies away and reduce the heat amidst a lack of water. The children's bodies are covered in pimples. I swear, I don't have money to buy them medicine to treat them."

STORYLINE:

For Reda Abu Hadayed, the start of the summer's heat adds a cruel new layer of misery to an already desperate daily struggle to survive in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.

With temperatures averaging 30 degrees celsius, daybreak begins with the cries of Hadayed’s seven children agonized by the heat inside the displaced family’s cramped nylon tent.

Outside, the humidity is blistering and unbearable.

STORYLINE:

A roadside bomb struck a vehicle carrying a government administrator in a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban, killing at least five officers and wounding 11 others, police said.

The bombing occurred Wednesday in Bajaur, a district in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Among the dead was government official Assistant Commissioner Faisal Sultan, according to the district police chief, who added that the victims were transported to hospital, where several were listed in critical condition.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but police said the blame is likely to fall on the Pakistani Taliban.

The group, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, often targets security forces and civilians in the region and elsewhere in the country.

TTP is a close ally of the Afghan Taliban, who seized power in neighboring Afghanistan in August, 2021, as U.S. and NATO troops were in the final stages of their pullout from the country after 20 years of war.

Many TTP leaders and fighters have found sanctuary in Afghanistan and have even been living there openly since the Taliban takeover, which also emboldened the Pakistani Taliban.
