Hong Kong leader John Lee called for "peace and stability" in the Middle East on Tuesday during a weekly news conference.
Lee called on the international community to jointly safeguard global peace, saying he backed the idea of resolving conflicts through diplomatic means.
Hong Kong's government raised a “black” outbound travel alert for Israel and Iran last week and advised its residents not to travel to both countries, said Lee.
The city’s immigration department received enquiries from 21 Hong Kong residents from Israel or Iran, and 20 of them left the countries safely.

  • Trump announces a ceasefire in Iran-Israel war, but status remains unclear | AP Explains
    (24 Jun 2025)
    RESTRICTIONS SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 24 June 2025
    ++STARTS ON SOUNDBITE++
    1. SOUNDBITE (English) Jon Gambrell, The Associated Press:
"We've seen a chaotic morning in the Middle East after President Donald Trump announced this tentative ceasefire to end the Iran-Israel war. Now, around 4 a.m. Tehran time, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragachi wrote online that if there were no additional Israeli airstrikes targeting the Islamic Republic, that Tehran would stop its attacks on Israel. There's been no acknowledgement of this by Israel, both of Aragachi's comments. And Trump's posts online about the tentative ceasefire. But just in the last few minutes, we've had at least three barrages of missiles launched by Iran at Israel. Now it's unclear how this affects the tentatives ceasefire that's supposed to fully take hold today. In other rounds of Mideast wars, including those involving Israel, we often see belligerents launch last minute attacks targeting areas that they wanted to hit in their campaigns. And we haven't still heard from Israel officially from its political class, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he stands on the Trump-proposed ceasefire. This all means that while these attacks are going on, there's still a chance for the ceasefire to take hold, but everything remains incredibly tentative."
    ++ENDS ON SOUNDBITE++
    STORYLINE:
U.S. President Donald Trump said Israel and Iran had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” soon after Iran launched a limited missile attack Monday on a U.S. military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said as long as Israel stopped its attacks by 4 a.m. local Tehran time Tuesday, Iran would halt its own.
But Israel’s military warned its public Tuesday that Iran had launched missiles towards it near an hour after that time.

"The total weight of confiscated narcotics is 623,885.79 grams, with an estimated value of the recovered evidence amounting to 26.175 billion rupiah ($1,745,000 U.S.)."
    7. Various of officials holding narcotics evidence
    STORYLINE:
Indonesian authorities said on Monday they arrested 285 people suspected of drug trafficking, and seized over half a ton of various narcotics during a two-month crackdown.
Deputy Chief of Indonesia’s National Narcotic Agency, Budi Wibowo, said in Jakarta that the suspects were mostly men, but included 29 women and seven foreign nationals.
Indonesia is a major hub for drug trafficking in Southeast Asia, despite having strict drug laws, with convicted smugglers sometimes executed by firing squad.
Officials said the crackdown, launched between April and June across 20 provinces, also uncovered money laundering schemes by two drug syndicates and confiscated assets worth more than 26 billion rupiah (about 1.5 million US dollars).
Thirty-six of the suspects, including 21 women, were paraded in front of reporters, along with confiscated drugs, in their orange prison uniforms and handcuffs.
The seven foreign nationals arrested were an American, two Kazakhs, two Malaysians, an Indian and an Australian, officials said.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime says Indonesia is a major drug-smuggling hub in part because international drug syndicates target its young population.
Early this month, three British nationals accused of smuggling nearly a kilogram (over two pounds) of cocaine into Indonesia were charged in a court on the tourist island of Bali.
They face the death penalty under the country’s strict drug laws.

  • Adrian Quesada talks working with Prince and its impact on his musical approach

"As somebody who has been a producer and I've done music director jobs and things like that, having the experience of watching Prince put a show together or a medley together or arrangement of a song together is something that you can't even buy. I can take a million classes and go to college for this or that and play a million gigs for 20 years, but there's nothing that would ever replace that experience and what I learned from it. But I think one of the biggest things was he just gave us confidence. You know, we were still in our 20s, and all of a sudden Prince is telling you that, like, you're good. And he was really sweet that way and that, all of the sudden, you come out of that and you're like, yeah, I do belong at this table."

  • Sirens in Tel Aviv as Israeli air defense intercepts new wave of Iranian missiles

    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Tel Aviv, Israel - 24 June 2025
    1. Various of Tel Aviv skyline, UPSOUND of sirens, explosions
    STORYLINE:
Sirens and explosions were heard in Tel Aviv within the early hours of Tuesday.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire" soon after Iran launched a limited missile attack Monday on a U.S. military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites. But the status of a possible ceasefire remained unclear as attacks continued Tuesday.
Iran's foreign minister said that as long as Israel stopped its attacks by 4 a.m. local Tehran time Tuesday, Iran would halt its own.
But nearly an hour after that deadline, Israel’s military warned its public that Iran had launched missiles towards it as sirens sounded. At least one missile interception could be seen over the skies of Jerusalem.
It’s unclear what the detected missile launch would do for the ceasefire's timeline.
A short while later, Israel said another barrage from Iran was on its way to the country, urging the public to return to shelters.
Trump's announcement on Truth Social said the ceasefire wouldn't begin until about midnight Tuesday Eastern time. He said it would bring an “Official END” to the war.

"President Donald Trump announced Monday evening that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire to be phased in over the following 24 hours to end their roughly 12-day war. This comes a day and a half after Trump ordered massive strikes on Iran's nuclear program, and hours after Iran launched largely symbolic counterattacks on an American base in Qatar. if it were to come to fruition, it would certainly be a significant development for the region and significant de-escalation to a conflict that was at risk of spiraling potentially out of control."

    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Zeke Miller, The Associated Press:
"Trump did not provide any more details on how this ceasefire was brokered. This war kicked off after Trump had called for negotiations with Iran to end its nuclear program that had largely been stalled. There is no information yet of whether the ceasefire would lead to a restarting of those nuclear negotiations with Iran that could see an easing of more than a decade of crushing sanctions on its economy that have largely isolated it from much to the rest of the world. Or if it was just a return to sort of the way where things were before the war kicked off earlier this month."

Iran said that as long as Israel stopped its attacks early Tuesday morning, it would halt theirs.
Israel did not immediately acknowledge any ceasefire, but there were no reports of Israeli strikes in Iran after 4 a.m. local. Heavy Israeli strikes continued in Tehran and other cities until shortly before that time.
“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”
His message was posted at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time. Araghchi added: “The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”

    STORYLINE:
Russian drones and missiles killed at least 14 civilians and injured several dozen others in Ukraine in overnight attacks, local officials said Monday, with nine deaths reported in the capital, Kyiv, where an apartment building partially collapsed.
"An emergency search operation is currently underway. At the moment, we have found nine bodies, of which one is a child. It was the ninth body, it was a girl, whose relatives were looking for her. That's where the screams are coming from," said State Emergency Service spokesperson Svitlana Vodolaha.
The attacks came as Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy began a visit to the United Kingdom, where he met privately with King Charles III.
Russia fired 352 drones and decoys overnight, as well as 11 ballistic missiles and five cruise missiles, Ukraine’s air force said.
Air defenses intercepted or jammed 339 drones and 15 missiles before they could reach their targets, a statement said.
A Russian ballistic missile strike destroyed a high school later in the day in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, killing two staff, authorities said.
No children were on the premises due to the summer vacation, said Zelenskyy, who described the strike as "absolutely insane."
The strikes came nearly a week after a Russian attack killed 28 people in Kyiv, 23 of them in a residential building that collapsed after a direct missile hit.
Russia has also hit civilian areas with long-range strikes in an apparent attempt to weaken Ukrainian morale.
