“All right, jurors, everybody please be seated. Jurors, we thank you for your service. We're going to send you back. Your service is complete. I'd like to come back and talk to you a little bit afterwards.”
    STORYLINE:
A jury found Karen Read not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges Wednesday in the 2022 death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, a case that attracted legions of true crime followers who erupted in cheers when word of the acquittal spread outside court.
The same jury also found her guilty of a lesser charge of drunken driving after deliberating for at least 22 hours since June 13.
Cheers from the crowd outside could be heard in the courtroom as the verdict was read. With gleeful supporters, Read departed the courthouse with her attorneys and family.
It was a huge victory for Read’s lawyers, who have long asserted that she was framed by police after dropping John O’Keefe off at a party at the home of a fellow officer. Prosecutors argued that the 45-year-old Read hit O’Keefe, 46, with her SUV before driving away, but the defense maintained that he was killed inside the home and later dragged outside.

"This trend is not new. This trend is, I would say, is borrowed from the times of colonialism. Because police were used to terrorize people from way back as early as the 60s, the 50s and unfortunately this trend does not seem to go away. A lot has been done about trying to reform the police, but it doesn't seem to go away."

    8. SOUNDBITE (English) Julius Juma, lawyer for Albert Ojwang's family:
++ON THE KILLING OF A STREET VENDOR BONIFACE KARIUKI BY POLICE DURING PROTESTS++
"Unfortunately this happening immediately a week or a few days after Ojwang's incident and actually when people were out protesting peacefully, expressing themselves because of Ojwang's incident and then this happens, what that means therefore is that this is nothing new. It's a continuation of what has been happening before. Ojwangs was not the first. Even if we start just from last June, how many people were recorded to have disappeared? How many people were recorded to have lost their lives at the hands of the police. So Ojwang's case is not new and the case of yesterday is not new. It's just that they are continuing what they have been doing before because nobody calls them to order. Yes."
    9. Various of Talam walking out of court
    STORYLINE:
A senior police officer in Kenya appeared in court on Wednesday over the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody.
Kenya’s prosecutor requested the accused police boss, Samson Talam, remains in detention for 15 days to allow for more investigations to be carried out.
Kenyan authorities on Friday arrested Talam who was responsible for the cell where a blogger died.
Albert Ojwang was found dead while in custody at the Central Police Station.
He was arrested on June 6 in western Kenya for what police called publishing “false information” about a top police official on social media.
Police attributed his death to him “hitting his head against the cell wall,” but a pathology report refuted the police account.
It comes as a demonstration over the death of Ojwang in police custody turned violent on Tuesday with police in riot gear facing protesters in downtown Nairobi.
Kenyans have expressed shock over the shooting of Boniface Kariuki, a street vendor who was shot at close range in the head during the protests.
The 22-year-old Kariuki was holding a packet of face masks and is believed to have been caught up in a confrontation with two officers in Nairobi as hundreds of protesters clashed with police.

The defense minister of Cyprus said four U.S. Air Force transport aircraft are currently stationed at an airport outside the southwestern town of Paphos.
Minister Vasilis Palmas said the aircraft arrived at the Andreas Papandreou Air Force Base "several days ago."
The U.S. moved overnight air force refueling tankers and C17s to European bases in Prestwick, Scotland and Aviano in Italy, according to the Aurora Intel, a group that reviews open source information in real time in the Middle East.
On Tuesday, the U.S. relocated a dozen F-16s from the Italian base to Prince Sultan, in Saudi Arabia, said the group.
This comes as the U.S. is shifting military aircraft and warships into and around the Middle East to protect Israel from Iranian attacks as President Donald Trump warns Tehran to step back from the conflict.
Trump would not say Wednesday whether he has decided to order a U.S. strike on Iran, a move that Tehran warned would be greeted with stiff retaliation if it happens.

    STORYLINE:
Just a day after New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate, Brad Lander, was arrested and later released by ICE at a federal facility in lower Manhattan, an attempt by U.S. congressmen to inspect the facility was denied.
New York representatives Dan Goldman and Jerry Nadler, both democrats, said that their constitutional oversight authority allows them to inspect detention centers and had even given advanced notice of their arrival, yet they were turned away Wednesday.
“We are very concerned about what conditions these immigrants are being held in while this mass deportation scheme is underway,” said Representative Goldman.
Rep. Nadler wants to know why both ICE and FBI agents working in the building were wearing masks to cover up their identities, “What are they hiding?,” he said.
ICE is stating despite some immigrants staying over for 1 or more days, that 26 Federal Plaza is not a detention center, but instead is a “processing center” so the representatives have no legal authority to inspect the facility.

"Samuel L. Jackson told me something a long time ago -- a great friend of mine -- he just said the snowman represents people that were demonized, and it was bigger than me. Because, you know, it's like Bruce Wayne: he's only Bruce Wayne but Batman is something different. And Snowman was that for me. It was this imagery of something that I was inspiring to be. And to know that they would suspend kids from school and keep them from wearing, you know, something that would represent that tells me that the message was loud and clear. That they got somebody to help on their side. Now, it is not just what you say. It's like we got a hood hero -- we got a neighborhood hero. We got a people's champ. And I think that's what the snowman represents."
