    STORYLINE:
In Los Angeles, thousands gathered in front of City Hall Saturday for a "No Kings" protest. This comes after the Trump administration deployed 4,700 Marines and National Guard troops to the city earlier in the week.
Protests were planned in nearly 2,000 locations across the country, from city blocks and small towns to courthouse steps and community parks, organizers said, but no events are scheduled in Washington, D.C., where the military parade marking the Army’s 250th anniversary will take place in the evening.
The 50501 Movement orchestrating the protests says it picked the “No Kings” name to support democracy and speak out against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.
In some places, organizers handed out little American flags while other demonstrators brought larger versions to wave amid signs that ranged from pro-democracy and immigrant-rights messages to a variety of anti-Trump sentiments.
The demonstrations come on the heels of protests that flared up across the country over federal immigration enforcement raids that began last week.

    9. Shen finishing speech
    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Ada Shen, Paris No Kings protest organizer:
“I think Americans everywhere should be very concerned about what is happening in the United States. This is a very dangerous moment. So we are exercising our right to free speech here in Europe while we still have it. We can see with the things that are happening in Los Angeles that even peaceful protests right now are the target, being targeted by this administration. It is a very dangerous moment for American democracy. So it's our hope that Americans everywhere will rise up and resist."
    11. Protester holding signs
    12. Close of protester's anti-Trump badge
    13. SOUNDBITE (English) Eva Coffey, protester:
"I think the message is that many in the American public are not going to stand for this. We're not going stand for a king, we're not going to stand for a fascist, authoritarian leader and that's what all of this is about. And we'll stand together with each other and say that over and over again."
    14. Protesters holding signs
    STORYLINE:
Hundreds joined a rally in Paris on Saturday as part of the "No Kings" demonstrations against US President Donald Trump being held across more than 2,000 locations.
The crowd, including many American nationals, gathered in the French capital's Place de la Bastille carrying signs and banners.
Organizers also set up an inflatable caricature of Trump as a golden-maned chicken in a prison jumpsuit, standing behind bars.
The demonstrations come on the heels of protests that flared up across the U.S over federal immigration enforcement raids that began last week and Trump ordering the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, where protesters blocked a freeway and set cars on fire.
Ada Shen, who helped organize the Paris "No Kings" rally, said the U.S. was facing a "very dangerous moment".
The 50501 Movement, standing for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement, has been orchestrating the protests and says it picked the “No Kings” name to support democracy and speak out against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration.
Eva Coffey, a U.S. citizen who moved to Paris with her family a week ago, echoed that sentiment saying demonstrators would be willing to say it "over and over again".

"If I did not fulfill everyone's wish, forgive me, but my mission is accomplished."
    STORYLINE:
Violeta Chamorro, an unassuming homemaker who was thrust into politics by her husband’s assassination and stunned the world by ousting the ruling Sandinista party in presidential elections and ending Nicaragua’s civil war, has died, her family said in a statement on Saturday. She was 95.
The country’s first female president, known as Doña Violeta to both supporters and detractors, presided over the Central American nation’s uneasy transition to peace after nearly a decade of conflict between the Sandinista government of Daniel Ortega and U.S.-backed Contra rebels.
At nearly seven years, Chamorro’s was the longest single term ever served by a democratically elected Nicaraguan leader, and when it was over, she handed over the presidential sash to an elected civilian successor — a relative rarity for a country with a long history of strongman rule, revolution, and deep political polarization.
Chamorro died in San Jose, Costa Rica, according to the family’s statement shared by her son, Carlos Fernando Chamorro, on X.
“Doña Violeta died peacefully, surrounded by the affection and love of her children and those who had provided her with extraordinary care, and now she finds herself in the peace of the Lord,” the statement said.

A massive military parade unfolding against the backdrop of President Donald Trump’s unconventional flex of fighting forces in American streets this week is on track to begin with tanks, bands and thousands of troops.
Saturday's parade, honoring the Army’s long-planned 250th anniversary celebration and coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday, is set to step off from the Lincoln Memorial under the threat of stormy weather in Washington and the potential for protests around the country tied to a turbulent week of immigration enforcement that has involved military deployment in Los Angeles.
Trump has brushed off the possibility of both disruptions, with a social media post Saturday morning that said the “great military parade” would be on “rain on shine.”

    STORYLINE:
Search and recovery teams continued scouring the site of one of India’s worst aviation disasters for a third day on Saturday after the Air India flight crashed and killed at least 270 people in Gujarat state, officials said.
The London-bound Boeing 787 struck a medical college hostel in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff Thursday, killing 241 people on board and at least 29 on the ground. One passenger survived.
Recovery teams working until late Friday found at least 25 more bodies in the debris, officials said.
Hundreds of relatives of the crash victims have provided DNA samples at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad where the remains of those killed have been taken.
Most bodies were charred or mutilated, making them unrecognizable.
Some relatives expressed frustration Saturday that the process was taking too long.
Authorities say it normally takes up to 72 hours to complete DNA matching and they are expediting the process.
Social workers were seen providing visitors and relatives of victims with cold water and food to withstand the intense heat as they waited for news.

    STORYLINE:
Police in Minnesota are cautioning residents to avoid “No Kings” protests after two state lawmakers and their spouses were shot early Saturday.
Police have recovered writings that mentioned the names of multiple lawmakers and other officials in the fake police car that they believe a suspect used in the shooting of two Democratic legislators in Minnesota. Melissa Hortman, a former Minnesota House Speaker, and her spouse were killed in their Brooklyn Park home. A second state lawmaker, Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, were shot multiple times in Champlin.
Police were searching for the gunman, who posed as a police officer, responsible for the attacks.
Hours after the shootings, hundreds of police and sheriff deputies from departments in the region, some in tactical gear with assault style weapons were scattered through the town. Occasional police roadblocks where cars are stopped and checked.
