  • Kevin Smith watched pirated copy of his own film
    (5 Jun 2025)
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Los Angeles - 30 May 2025
    1. SOUNDBITE (English) Kevin Smith, writer/director:
"Honestly for years, I would go watch, somebody pirated a 4k copy that was on YouTube forever. So as the guy who made it, that's where I would go watch it. As the filmmaker, I'm not one I don't hold precious to like, hey, man, it's transactional. Like, you know, the world used to be that way. But now of course, we live in a world where like people are like, Oh, I got that for free. So I've always felt this way, even you know the people who finance the movies feel differently, but as the guy who makes this shit, I just, I don't care how you see it, like just see it eventually. And, and you know, so never feel sad about like, well, I want to put money in your pocket. You'll do better than put money in my pocket if you just take it in and talk about it to somebody else. That's what every artist cares about."

    11. Various of protesters in front of the Congress building
    STORYLINE:
Dozens marched in Brasilia on Environment Day to denounce the dismantling of environmental legislation, specifically a bill that critics dubbed the "Devastation Bill".
The march is promoted by organizations and movements that are uniting to pressure the House of Representatives not to vote on the bill and President Lula to veto it.
“The environment is everything. It’s fauna, flora. So if we don’t take care of it, we won’t have anything,” said protester Efigênia Alves Pereira.
Protesters had flags, banners, and placards representing politicians who are in favour of the bill, with their faces dirty with mud.
The bill would permit the construction of projects deemed to have low or moderate environmental impact without requiring approval from environmental agencies.
Environment Minister Marina Silva said recently that the bill would be “the burial of environmental licensing” in the country.
The protest also had a group of women victims of environmental disasters, like the 2015 Mariana dam disaster, when around 39 million cubic meters of mining waste flowed 663 kilometers through the Doce River Basin until they reached the sea in Espírito Santo.

  • Ángela Aguilar says Marc Anthony collaboration on new album was an honor
    (5 Jun 2025)
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Los Angeles - 27 May 2025
    1. SOUNDBITE (English) Ángela Aguilar, recording artist
"Well, we were at a party, but we don't have friends, so our parties are just Marc, Nadia (Ferreira), Christian (Nodal), and me. Like, I know that Marc has more friends, but Christian and I, we're very hermit crabs, so we don't really like to get out of our shell. And we, I don't know how they convinced me to show my music, because I'm, again, I'm very shy with my music. It's something very new for me, so I'm really nervous to share it with people, and I don't feel as confident. But I think it might have been the tequila, but I shared it. I don't remember what happened that night. Then, two weeks later I get a message from Theomarc, because I call him Theomarc. And he's like, 'Oh, I'm going into the studio and is it OK if I bring it down like two tones? And I open the message and I sent him the arrangement, the lyrics, my lead voice, my vocal, I don't know why I did all of that. But it was so beautiful because I feel like that's a true collaboration. When it's so real, when it's honest, when it is coming out of friendship, that's something I learned during the years. You better really like who you're working with because you're going to work with them forever. So I really admire Marc, his voice is incredible and it's such an honor. It's so humbling, when he sent me back the vocals I was like, 'Let me, let me re-record that. Let me re record my version.' Because it was so amazing. He's such a great artist."

To see people who could be impacted, we visited southwest Indiana. It’s there that heavy industry and multiple coal-fired power plants historically dirtied the environment.
