    STORYLINE:
Indiana Pacers fans are in a celebratory mood this weekend. For the first time in 25 years, the team will play in the 2025 NBA Conference Finals.
"We're just so excited because the Pacers are the underdogs, but they've been playing well all season," said Rosa Cranston, who moved to Indianapolis from Seattle three years ago.
The Pacers secured their spot in the finals Saturday night by defeating the New York Knicks in six games in the Eastern Conference finals. They will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, from the Western Conference finals, in the NBA Finals.
The Pacers have only reached the NBA Finals once before, in 2000, when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Rob Melillo, a Pacers fan from Florida who was visiting Indianapolis this weekend, said he was 3 years old at the time but does not remember the event. The 28-year-old is excited to see the team get a second chance to bring home the trophy.
"This is a very unique and special opportunity for a lot of people my age and older, as well as the younger generation," Melillo said.

  • Nawrocki remains confident of win even as exit poll suggest Poland election result too close to call
    (1 Jun 2025)
    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Warsaw, Poland - 1 June 2025
    1. Wide zoom of presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki walking on stage at party headquarters
    2. SOUNDBITE (Polish) Karol Nawrocki, presidential candidate:
"Dear ladies and gentlemen, yes we will win! Tonight we will win. We will win and save Poland. We will not allow Donald Tusk's power to close up and the monopoly of power, bad power, which does not care about public finances. Power, which takes away our great dreams and takes away our aspirations, so that this monopoly does not close up. We must win tonight and we know that it will."
    3. Nawrocki on stage chanting
    4. Wide of stage, audience
    STORYLINE:
Polish presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki remained confident of a win on Sunday evening, as an exit poll in Poland’s presidential runoff showed the two candidates in a statistical tie with the race still too close to call in the deeply divided nation.
The results could set the course for the nation’s political future and its relations with the European Union.
An Ipsos exit poll released when the voting ended showed that liberal Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski won 50.3% of the vote and conservative historian Karol Nawrocki won 49.7%.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points and the final vote is likely to change somewhat.
Though the final result was still unclear with the two locked in a near dead heat, both men claimed to have won in meetings with their supporters in Warsaw.
Nawrocki, speaking to his supporters at an event in Warsaw, said he believed he was on track to win. “We will win and save Poland,” he said. “We must win tonight."
It looked as if it could be a long evening in Warsaw as the nation waited for a more precise "late poll” that combines a portion of the vote count with the survey data to give more clarity.
The final results were expected on Monday.

    9. SOUNDBITE (English) Billie Sky, transgender woman footballer at Goal Diggers FC:
"I feel very excited, not only that a tournament like this is taking place, but also I feel very privileged to be so close to this tournament and you know I feel proud of my team. I think, you know, there's so many cis women that support the inclusion of trans women in sport and it really means a lot to see that, you know, physically and invisibly because it's something I think that people that don't play football would should know."
    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Paula Griffin, transgender woman footballer at Goal Diggers FC:
"The support and solidarity as today is going to show over this last month has been absolutely incredible. We are not going to go away because of this. We are still here. And you know they're not going take away this community, my friends. And there's such a powerful message coming from that, that the people who care about women's sport are the people who play the women's sports. And these are the people that are my friends."
    11. Various of players getting ready
    12. SOUNDBITE (English) Jahnavi Kalayil, woman football player:
"I think it's really, obviously sad news and it's coming from a point of people trying to take away from communities like this that are just trying to enjoy themselves and have a safe space where they feel like they can be themselves and find like-minded people to spend time with. But I think that's the whole point of today, is we're trying to just reclaim the day and make it a really joyous time to spend together. And I think it's definitely happened, everyone's had a really great time, whether winning or losing the games, it's more about just coming together as a community and making sure we're standing up for our trans siblings."
    13. Various of match
    14. SOUNDBITE (English) Hatty Farnham, woman football player:
"We have had to drop out of quite a few our leagues because they can't promise that they can remain trans inclusive. And so it just means that we've gone back to like playing friendlies in the park. And it's just really sad because apart from it being like a huge step backwards for trans rights, it's just a big step backwards to women's football in general, like we want to play in competitions, we want to have refs, we want play on proper pitches. And in order to show up for our trans siblings and friends we've had to step out of our leagues and go back to playing friendlies in the park. It just feels like, yeah, a massive shame."
    15. Goal
    16. Transgender flag band on player's arm
    STORYLINE:
Sunday was a tough day for soccer-loving transgender women in England, as a ban on their participation in women's teams came into force.
To show solidarity with the community and against the decision by the governing body of English football, a London-based trans-inclusive women’s team called Goal Diggers staged a tournament.
The message was clear: Yes, it was a sad day, but no one would stop transgender women playing the sport they loved.
And everyone present appeared to find comfort in their solidarity despite the occasional foul, intentional or not.

    STORYLINE:
Triumphant after its historic Champions League victory, Paris Saint-Germain put on an open-top bus parade through Paris on Sunday for roaring fans, an outburst of joy overshadowed by the deaths of two people and some 200 injuries during overnight celebrations.
Brandishing their trophy, the winners of European club soccer’s biggest prize arrived in Paris on Sunday after their 5-0 win over Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday night, and headed to France's most famous avenue: the Champs-Elysees.
PSG fans waved blue and red as they waited for the team bus to arrive.
As the parade started, the atmosphere was calm as fans stood behind barriers with a long line of riot police in front of them.
They roared when the bus came into sight and captain Marquinhos brandished the trophy over his head, then passed it down to other players.
Coach Luis Enrique joined in with the fans as they sang one of the club’s anthems, and star forward Ousmane Dembélé blew kisses.
The team later met with French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron at the Élysée Palace, with players wearing club tracksuits and PSG jerseys.
Fans inside the 49,000-seater stadium sang “Champions d'Europe” (Champions of Europe) as they waited for the ceremony to begin.

  • Hundreds rally in Serbia capital to mark seven month anniversary of train station tragedy

    2. SOUNDBITE (Serbian) Mina Miletic, protester:
"When I see tens of thousands of people fighting for the same goal, it keeps me going. The goal is a rule of law and life in a decent country.”
    3. Protesters blowing whistle and horn
    4. SOUNDBITE (Serbian) Milica Martic, protester:
"This is the only way. We have to come out, no matter how long it takes. It is certainly a nonviolent path, non-violence is good. We hope that students will change something. We have to, we will wait.”
    5. Various of protesters by the bridge
    STORYLINE:
Thousands of protesters in Serbia on Sunday blocked bridges in the capital Belgrade and rallied throughout the country, marking exactly seven months since a concrete canopy collapsed at a train station in the north, killing 16 people and sparking a wave of anti-corruption protests.
The students-led gatherings were held in more than 30 Serbian cities and towns, keeping up the pressure on President Aleksandar Vucic to call a snap parliamentary election following months of persistent demonstrations that have shaken his firm grip on power in Serbia.
Many people in Serbia believe that the deadly Nov. 1 canopy collapse in Novi Sad was the result of flawed renovation work on the station building, and they link the disaster to alleged government corruption in major infrastructure projects with Chinese state companies.
Vucic, whom critics have accused of imposing an authoritarian rule in Serbia since coming to power over a decade ago, initially dismissed early elections but on Friday suggested they may be held, though without saying exactly when.
Sunday's protests included commemoration ceremonies for the victims of the Novi Sad crash and student marches and blockades. In Belgrade, crowds halted traffic at two key bridges over the Sava river, while protesters in Novi Sad came to the central railway station where the tragedy happened.

The overnight fatalities marred a night of exuberance after PSG clinched its first — and long-awaited — Champions League title. The Eiffel Tower glowed in team colors, and fans partied through the night.

Health officials and witnesses in Gaza Strip said at least 31 people were killed and over 170 wounded as they made their way to the hub, which is run by the Israeli and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)
Witnesses said Israeli forces fired on crowds around a kilometer (1,000 yards) from the site, but Israel’s military insisted its forces did not fire at civilians near or within the site.
The foundation said it delivered aid at its sites “without incident”.
