Volodymyr Zelensky has hit out at Russia’s “decorative” delegation for peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul, after landing in Ankara for a meeting with the Turkish president.

In a momentous day for Ukrainian diplomacy, Mr Zelensky will meet with president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, where the Turkish president will call for a ceasefire without delay.

Watch live as Donald Trump speaks from a Qatarii air base after skipping the Ukraine Russia peace talks in Turkey on Thursday (15 May).

The Qatari air base was used as a major staging ground during the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Trump will address troops at the al-Udeid Air Base, which was also used to support the recent U.S. air strikes against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning received its world premiere on Wednesday (14 May) at the Grand Théâtre Lumière, where Cruise delivered his swansong as super spy Ethan Hunt.

Prior to the screening, Cruise and his co-stars, including Simon Pegg, Hannah Waddingham, Trammell Tilman, and Angela Bassett, walked the red carpet.

They paused several times to capture the joyful moment with selfies taken by Christopher McQuarrie, who directed five of the eight Mission Impossible films, including Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018), Dead Reckoning (2023), and The Final Reckoning (2025).

Although a seemingly innocuous act, the selfies broke the rules of the Cannes Film Festival, which state that taking selfies are prohibited on the red carpet.

World leaders have criticised Russian president Vladimir Putin for sending a “low-level” team to peace talks in Turkey today, where European ministers and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky have gathered in hopes of a meaningful breakthrough.

Mr Putin sending juniors aides and deputy ministers to Turkey was "like a slap in the face”, Estonian foreign minister Margus Tsahkna said this morning, while Latvian foreign minister Baiba Braze said she does not see any indications that Russia wants peace in Ukraine.

Donald Trump boasted about changing the engines on his new luxury jet after striking a deal with Qatar Airways.

As part of the deal, Qatar Airways will by some 160 aircraft from U.S. manufacturer Boeing, which Trump claims is one of the company’s largest orders in its history.

Speaking ahead of a business roundtable in Doha on Thursday (15 May), Trump joked: “General Electric, I hear, makes the best large aeroplane engine in the world by not even a contest. Maybe I can change my engines one day of my plane."

Volodymyr Zelensky says he is “waiting” to see who from Russia will attend the Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Istanbul before deciding “which steps Ukraine will take.”

A US official said Donald Trump would no longer join the talks, having previously considered attending if Putin was present.

Zelensky had earlier said he would go to Istanbul only if Mr Putin did.

Russia announced its delegation on Wednesday evening, and Putin’s name was not included.

If both leaders attended, it would mark their first meeting in the three-year conflict.

The co-founder of the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream company was arrested Wednesday in a protest at a Senate hearing where he accused Congress of providing bombs that are killing children in Gaza.

Ben Cohen was one of seven people arrested at the hearing held by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, according to the Capitol Police.

The protest erupted as Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr was beginning to testify on the 2026 budget for his department.
