King Charles III and the royal family gathered to watch a Red Arrows flypast from the Buckingham Palace balcony marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) on Monday, 5 May.

The planes flew a several-hundred-mile route, beginning at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and ending in northwest London. Thousands of people lined the Mall in London to watch and celebrate the historic occasion.

The royals presented a united front on the balcony, despite renewed tensions between the Palace and Prince Harry over the weekend.

Five men, including four Iranian nationals, were arrested at locations across England on Saturday 3 May, on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act after a suspected plot “to target a single premises” was uncovered, the Metropolitan Police said.

A further three Iranian men were arrested on Saturday as part of a separate operation, the Met added.

Police are not treating the two cases as linked. Dominic Murphy, head of counter terrorism at the Met Police, asked the public to “avoid speculation and some of the things that are being posted online”.

A four-year-old girl was killed after an SUV crashed through an entrance of Manila International Airport on Sunday morning (4 May).

Footage shows emergency services recovering the vehicle from the crash site using a forklift, with some onlookers in tears. Among the damage to the scene, a bollard protecting the entrance to Terminal 1 appears to have been torn out of the ground from the impact.

An adult male was also among the victims, according to the Philippine Red Cross. There is no suggestion from police, who arrested a man at the scene, that the incident was deliberate.

Secretary of Transportation Vivencio Hizon told reporters: “There are three injured who are currently at the San Juan De Dios Hospital. The driver will be subjected to mandatory drug testing.”

A missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels towards Israel on Sunday landed near Ben Gurion Airport, the country's main international airport, sending a plume of smoke into the air and causing panic among passengers in the terminal building.

Yemen's Houthis claimed responsibility for the missile the group's military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a televised statement.

Saree reiterated a warning to airlines that the Israeli airport was "no longer safe for air travel".

It was after their tiny plane crashed into the Bolivian jungle earlier this week that their ordeal really began.

After smashing into the ground, the aircraft flipped over into a lagoon infested with anacondas and alligators, plunging the pilot and four passengers — including a six-year-old boy — into a harrowing 36 hours spent clinging to the plane's wreckage before being rescued Friday in the northeast of this Andean nation.

Tim Friede has been bitten by snakes hundreds of times — often on purpose. Now scientists are studying his blood in hopes of creating a better treatment for snake bites.

Friede has long had a fascination with reptiles and other venomous creatures. He used to milk scorpions' and spiders' venom as a hobby and kept dozens of snakes at his Wisconsin home.

Hoping to protect himself from snake bites — and out of what he calls “simple curiosity” — he began injecting himself with small doses of snake venom and then slowly increased the amount to try to build up tolerance. He would then let snakes bite him.
