California Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling for a Nov. 4 special election on new U.S. House maps designed to win more Democratic seats.

His move is in response to Republican efforts to pick up five seats in Texas. Newsom released a campaign ad on social media Thursday as Democrats kicked off a press conference.

State lawmakers technically need to declare the special election and they plan to do so next week.

Donald Trump has said that Vladimir Putin is “not going to mess around with me”, ahead of his crunch meeting with the Russian leader in Alaska.During a press conference at the White House, the US president floated the idea that European leaders could be invited to participate in a second meeting, which would include Volodymyr Zelensky.The main aim of tomorrow’s meeting is to set up talks between Putin and the Ukrainian president Mr Trump told Fox News Radio, adding that he has three locations in mind for such a meeting.

Donald Trump has said there is a "25 per cent chance” that his crunch Alaska meeting with Vladimir Putin “will not be a successful meeting”.

The main aim of tomorrow’s meeting is to set up talks between Putin and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, Mr Trump told Fox News Radio, adding that he has three locations in mind for such a meeting.

The US president, who is gearing up to meet his Russian counterpart for the first time since 2018, said he is unsure whether an immediate ceasefire will be achieved tomorrow.

Held from 15 to 17 August, the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games will bring teams from more than 20 countries together to compete in a variety of sports, ranging from track to dance to martial arts.

Over 500 robots will compete in the three-day event, marking the first of its kind in the world.

The spectacle is being held at the National Speed Skating Oval – also known as the Ice Ribbon. It is the same venue that hosted speed skating competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Inside the arena are four major competition areas, including a running track, a soccer field and a boxing ring. Surrounding this is a remote control room for operators to guide the robots from a distance.

Drug dealer armed with hammer caught in unmarked police car sting

A drug dealer armed with a hammer was caught following a failed moped getaway in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on 11 June, newly-released video shows.

Metropolitan Police officers in an unmarked vehicle spotted the suspected drug dealer riding a moped and began following him.

When he attempted to flee, officers intercepted him by driving into the moped and blocking his escape.

A search found 79 wraps of cocaine, £1,000 in cash and a hammer on him, with an additional £9,000 in cash found at his home.

He has pleaded guilty to the offences and is currently in prison awaiting sentencing.

A small plane landing at a Montana airport crashed into a second aircraft on the runaway, according to officials who said there were only minor injuries.

The incident occurred at 2:08 p.m. MDT Monday at Kalispell City Airport, located in northwestern Montana, about 200 miles northwest of Helena.

The Federal Aviation Administration explained in a statement that a Socata TBM 700 struck an unoccupied Swearingen SX-300 after landing.

According to a statement from the Kalispell Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates that the pilot lost control of the aircraft while attempting to land at the airport, resulting in the runway crash.

"All four occupants of the aircraft, who were from out of state, reported only minor injuries and were treated at the scene," KPD said. "No additional injuries have been reported." The Kalispell Fire Department had been among the agencies that responded to the scene, as the plane crash seemingly resulted in a fire, which authorities said has since been contained.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
