Undercover police are posing as joggers in a bid to crack down on street harassment and catcalling.

Surrey Police are sending female officers clad in civilian jogging gear on runs in “key locations” around the county as part of new tactics designed to tackle harassment against runners.

The force said they recognised the issue was a “significant worry” for women and girls in the area, labelling it as “unacceptable”.

The campaign has seen support crews accompany female officers who have volunteered to take part from a distance, ready to swoop in if the officers experience catcalling or harassment.

Farm animals and pets have been rushed to safety as wildfires ravaged the Greek port city of Patras.

As wildfires rage through olive groves and pine forests outside Greece's third-largest city of Patras on Wednesday (13 August), a farmer can be seen navigating smoke-filled roads on his motorbike, carrying a sheep to safety.

As another man fled advancing fire lines, he ran with his goats.

Elsewhere, residents were evacuated from their homes carrying pets or guiding frightened livestock away of the flames.

After weeks of scorching heat, wildfires have intensified across southern Europe, where firefighting resources remain stretched despite assistance from the European Union.

As US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Scotland for a family holiday to the UK, he was greeted at the resort by dozens of pro-Palestine protesters, who accused him of supporting a “genocide” by Israel in Gaza on Wednesday, 13 August.

It comes after demonstrators descended on a quiet hamlet in the Cotswolds to protest against the Republican’s presence there.

Dozens of people gathered in the usually quiet Oxfordshire countryside to tell Mr Vance he was “not welcome” in the area as he stayed in a Grade II listed country manor in the hamlet of Dean.

Local media described a crowd of between 50 to 100 people gathering in the nearby village of Charlbury.

Palestinian children who are in need of urgent medical care have been evacuated from Gaza to Italy.

After landing at Rome Ciampino airport on Wednesday (13 August), the young patients, who are all suffering from severe injuries and amputations or serious congenital diseases, were transported to hospital.

Footage shared by the Associated Press on Thursday (14 August) shows patients being wheeled out of the plane on stretchers as numerous ambulances waited to escort them to medical care.

Standing on the tarmac, Antonio Tajani, Italy’s foreign minister said: “The important thing for us is to continue to support the Palestinian people. It is important for us to help those who are suffering, and treat those who are in need in our country.”

Italy received 114 evacuees on Wednesday night, with 31 being children.

Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Ukraine’s borders “must not be changed by force” as he prepared to meet Volodymyr Zelensky in Downing Street.

The Prime Minister will host the Ukrainian leader on Thursday in a show of support, a day before President Donald Trump holds talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska aimed at ending the three-year-old conflict.

On Wednesday, Trump joined a virtual meeting with European leaders, including Zelensky, who sought to set red lines ahead of the summit.

The US President threatened “severe consequences” for if Putin does not agree to peace in Ukraine, without specifying what these could be.

In a statement on Wednesday, Sir Keir said that the UK’s support for Ukraine was “unwavering”, adding: “International borders must not be changed by force and Ukraine must have robust and credible security guarantees to defend its territorial integrity as part of any deal.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington, D.C., police are "standing there, and people are spitting in their face and they're not allowed to do anything. But now they are allowed to do whatever the hell they want."

Trump announced a "crime emergency" in Washington, D.C., and deployed the National Guard. Calling the situation in the capital city one of "complete and total lawlessness," according to some video clips, Trump reportedly said the police would be "allowed to do whatever the hell they want" in response to apparent crime.

A fisherman’s drone has captured the rare moment a 10-foot shark is spotted in the sea at a Maine beach.

Fisherman David Lancaster captured the footage from his watercraft at around 10am on Monday (11 August).

Scarborough Police Department shared the footage taken by My Lancaster on its Facebook page, as a second sighting of the shark was also seen in an area off Pine Point Beach.

A police spokesman said: “We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.”

CCTV video captured the moment a shopkeeper sprinted and tackled an attempted robber before his colleague arrived and "smacked him in the gob".

Shopkeeper Billy Maher, 62, saw a staff member tackle a balaclava-clad man trying to make off with a crate of Foster's beer before slamming him into an ice cream crate.

Billy then ran over and "smacked him in the gob" as his staff member took punches to the face from the robber.

The robber, wearing a black puffer coat and black gloves, then ran off with his accomplice who held the door open for him.
