Ten years after his career as a television star ended when he launched his first campaign for the presidency, President Donald Trump is returning to his presenter roots as host of this year’s Kennedy Center Honors award ceremony this December.

The president, who appointed himself head of the Kennedy Center shortly after taking office, made the announcement himself at a press conference to unveil this year’s slate of honorees.

The president, who appointed himself head of the Kennedy Center shortly after taking office, made the announcement himself at a press conference to unveil this year’s slate of honorees.

He claimed the Kennedy Center board had requested that he serve as the emcee of this year’s show, stepping into shoes once filled by the late CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite from 1981 to 2002, then by Ambassador Caroline Kennedy — the daughter of President John F. Kennedy, for whom the arts center is named — from 2003 to 2012.

Trump said he didn't want to host, but added that, "I think it will be quite successful."

Thirty-five cars of a Union Pacific train derailed Tuesday afternoon near a small Texas town, officials said.

No injuries were reported and no evacuations have been ordered following the afternoon derailment, Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver said.

News footage showed multiple train cars piled on top of one another on the railroad track located in a rural area.

A grass fire and smoke could be seen beside the derailment site. The emergency services district said the derailment was being treated as a hazardous material situation.

But it was not immediately known what the derailed train cars were carrying. The derailment occurred around 2 p.m. just east of the town of Gordon, Tysver said.

Final EU plans to take fingerprints and facial biometrics from British travellers to Europe have been revealed. The long-awaited “entry-exit system” (EES) will be rolled out over the course of 180 days from 12 October 2025 to 9 April 2026.

It will connect every frontier in the Schengen area (comprising all EU nations except Ireland, plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland). with a central database.

The aims are to identify suspected criminals and to police the limit on stays of 90 days in any 180 days that applies to UK and other nationalities.

None of the railroad cars were leaking their contents, according to a post on social media by the Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1. “All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. The situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled,” the emergency services district said in a statement.
