Dashcam footage caught the moment a bolt of lightning hit a transformer by a busy highway, causing it to explode. The dramatic scene was caught on a police officer’s camera during a thunderstorm at around 11 a.m. Monday. Flames from the blast brought down wires across the road and led to widespread power outages, Mount Pleasant cops said.

“A bit too much excitement for a Monday! The lightning strike caused our power outages and traffic delays. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Dominion Energy responded quickly, restoring power and removing the downed wires,” police said in a post sharing the footage on X.

Southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina are currently experiencing hazardous weather as high temperatures drive up the chances of heavy thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Donald Trump is set to meet with Vladimir Putin in Alaska in what the US president has said may be little more than a “look see” but in truth may prove to be a meeting that defines Europe, and global security, for decades.

From Trump’s perspective, the summit may be part of his drive for a Nobel Peace Prize by ending Putin’s war against Ukraine using the “art of the deal”. Putin, however, is likely to prevail and his agenda is the art of the steal – specifically a massive grab of his neighbour’s land.

Missing from the meeting is the country most affected – Ukraine itself. Led by Volodymyr Zelensky, it has held out against the Kremlin for 11 years.

This is the dramatic moment two police officers enter a smoke-filled home and rescue a trapped man by dragging him out by his ankles.

Tampa Police sprang into action when they were called to a fire on the 8400 block of N. Highlands Ave. on Saturday (August 9).

Two officers entered the building and found a man in the living room. After initially being overcome with smoke, they re-entered the home and managed to drag the man to safety.

A would-be assassin who travelled from the US to shoot a man in Birmingham has been found guilty of conspiracy to murder.

Birmingham Crown Court previously heard that US citizen Aimee Betro, 45, became embroiled in a plot to attack a rival family of Mohammed Nazir and his father Mohammed Aslam.

She disguised herself with a niqab before pointing a handgun at Sikander Ali in a Birmingham cul-de-sac on 7 September 2019.

However, the gun jammed, allowing Mr Ali to escape in his car.

Birmingham Crown Court previously heard that she became embroiled in a plot to attack a rival family of Mohammed Nazir and his father, Mohammed Aslam.

Betro appeared in the court on Tuesday (12 August).

She was found guilty on charges of conspiracy to murder and possessing a self-loading pistol with intent to cause fear of violence.

She was also found guilty by a unanimous verdict on a charge of fraudulently evading the prohibition on importing ammunition.

Betro, who is originally from West Allis in Wisconsin but spent several years in Armenia before her arrest in January.

She will be sentenced on 21 August.

CCTV footage shows brazen shoplifters walking out of pharmacies across the UK with stolen medical supplies.

New figures from the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) show around nine in 10 pharmacies have experienced a rise in theft and aggressive behaviour over the last year, while 22 per cent had seen physical assaults on staff.

Chief executive of the NPA Henry Gregg says the figures are "unacceptable" and is calling on the police to do more to tackle these sorts of crimes.

The Home Office told The Independent it is introducing a special offence for assaulting retail workers, and removing the effective immunity for shop thefts under £200.
