Europe’s much-delayed entry-exit system (EES) will begin to apply to some travellers from the UK to the EU on 12 October this year.

The scheme will connect all Schengen area frontiers to a central database. The aim is to digitise border crossings so that the comings and goings of non-EU citizens can be more closely monitored. It will help to identify suspected criminals and to police the limit on stays of 90 days in any 180 days that applies to UK and other nationalities.

The newly declared date means some British passport holders heading away for October half-term holidays will need to give fingerprints and facial biometrics.

Dressed as the iconic TV character El Chapulín Colorado (The Red Grasshopper), a Peruvian police officer helped carry out a surprise drug raid in Lima, arresting five suspects and seizing marijuana and cocaine.

Wearing the red costume of the beloved slapstick antihero popular across the Spanish-speaking world, the officer used a sledgehammer to break down a door during the Thursday (17 July) operation, while fellow agents moved in undetected.

Colonel Pedro Rojas of the Green Squadron said the disguise allowed the unit to approach unnoticed, using the character’s familiarity to blend in — catching suspects off guard with the unusual police tactic.

Nigel Farage revealed Reform UK’s plan to send British criminals to some of the world’s toughest prisons during a speech on Monday (21 July).

The Reform UK leader unveiled plans that would seemingly mimic measures implemented by Donald Trump in America. The plans are part of the party’s zero-tolerance approach to crime.

Addressing media in London, Mr Farage said: “If it means Ian Huntley has to go to El Salvador, so be it.”

“Reform will be the toughest party on law and order and on crime that this country has ever seen.”

Huntley is currently serving a life sentence after he was found guilty of murdering school girls Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells in Soham in 2002.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has retracted a tsunami warning for Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula after two quakes struck in the sea nearby on Sunday.

The larger quake with a magnitude of 7.4 was at a depth of 12 miles and was 89 miles east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which has a population of 180,000.

Victoria Beckham poked fun at David Beckham after his at-home haircut resulted in disaster.

In a video posted to her Instagram page on Saturday (19 July), the fashion designer shared a video of the former England footballer covering his head with his hand.

David had attempted a DIY buzzcut, a look he famously sported in the early noughties, but ended up with a bald patch.

"The clipper head fell off," he explained.

At least 19 people have been killed and more than 50 injured after a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into buildings at a college campus in the capital Dhaka.

Large crowds of people gathered near the scene of the crash, some stood on top of fire trucks, as emergency services were seen rushing to and from the crash site.

The F-7 BGI aircraft took off at 1.06pm local time and crashed roughly twelve minutes later in the Diabari area of Uttara in the northern part of the capital, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
