Holidaymakers in Corfu have been hit with bills for roaming charges of up to £300 after their phones latched on to Albanian mobile phone masts. At their closest, the Greek island and the Balkan nation are barely one mile apart.

This issue is not limited to Corfu/Albania confusion. Most British travellers have some sort of deal for low roaming charges within the European Union, and often the wider Schengen area (including Switzerland, Iceland and Norway). Costs are kept down to perhaps a few pounds per day.

Lucy Bronze has offered her full support to teammate Jess Carter after the England defender faced racist abuse during Euro 2025.

Bronze spoke out on 20 July 2025, condemning the hateful messages Carter received online. She said: “The abuse is not okay. Racism is not okay.”

The England squad held meetings to address the issue, showing solidarity with Carter and others affected by racism.

Bronze called for greater accountability from social media platforms to protect players.

As a result, Carter has stepped back from social media, and the Lionesses announced they will no longer take the knee before Tuesday’s Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy.

A car dramatically crashed into a barn roof in Bohmte, Germany, on Saturday, injuring several people, including a seriously hurt seven-year-old boy.

Police reported the vehicle veered off the road around 8pm, breaking through a hedge before striking the boy on a trampoline. It then careered into the barn roof, approximately three metres high.

The boy sustained serious injuries, as did a 43-year-old woman, a passenger in the car. A 42-year-old man was driving, accompanied by their two sons, aged 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger.

The vehicle was later removed from the roof by crane and seized by police.

A Royal Opera House performer unfurled a Palestine flag on stage during the curtain call for Il trovatore's closing night on Saturday (19 July).

A brief scuffle ensued as an official appeared to try and stop the protest, and the cast member continued to hold up the flag at the London performance.

A spokesperson for the Royal Ballet and Opera said: “The display of the flag was an unauthorised action by the artist. It was not approved by the Royal Ballet and Opera and is a wholly inappropriate act."
