A Delta Airlines plane caught fire shortly after takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, 18 July.

Footage from the LA Flights YouTube channel shows the Boeing 767-400 aircraft, which was heading to Atlanta, with flames visible on its left engine.

An airline spokesperson said: "Delta flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure following an indication of an issue with the aircraft's left engine."

Flight trackers showed the plane taking off before circling back to the airport and landing safely at LAX.

An investigation into the fire is underway.

The Snail Racing World Championship returned to Norfolk this year, attracting competitors from London, France, and South Korea.

The races took place on Saturday (19 July), on a damp cloth-covered tabletop marked with concentric circles, with snails starting on the inner rim and racing toward the outer edge.

Each race began with the call of “ready, steady, slow.”

Despite heavy rain, the event went ahead as spectators gathered, drawn by growing interest on social media and curiosity about the unusual competition.

Organiser Nicholas Dickinson said, “Snails like really damp conditions, so today is really good racing weather.”

Rescuers have recovered 34 bodies and found 11 survivors after the Wonder Sea tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, on Saturday (19 July).

The boat was carrying 53 people, including five crew members, when it overturned around 2 pm local time amid sudden strong winds and a thunderstorm.

Most passengers were tourists from Hanoi, including about 20 children, the People’s Army Newspaper said, citing local border guards.

Authorities have yet to confirm the tourists’ nationalities and continue searching for missing people.

A national weather forecast said a tropical storm called Wipha is expected to hit Vietnam's northern region, including Ha Long Bay's coast, next week.

The Metropolitan Police has arrested 55 demonstrators in central London holding placards which express support for Palestine Action.

It is the third weekend in a row in which protests against the proscription of Palestine Action as a terror group have ended in mass arrests in the capital, after 42 were detained last weekend.

The force confirmed on Saturday it had started making arrests after demonstrators wrote the message "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action" on white placards and held the signs aloft before being surrounded by police officers at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square.

The Metropolitan Police said 55 people were arrested under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for holding the signs in support of the banned group.

The Met Office has issued a warning that storms could cause flooding and pose a danger to life in some areas of England over the weekend.

An amber weather warning has come into force for London, parts of the south and south east of England, from 4am to 11am on Saturday.

Buildings could be damaged by floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds, the forecaster said.

It is the first amber warning issued for London since January 2 2024, during Storm Henk.
