Survival Mode...for most adoptees it's every day life. It's a life of being someone you aren't out of fear of more loss. And what's worse is, no one validates your scars. After all, you appear well adjusted and 'fine'. Before you know it, you are a grown adult that has no idea how to make healthy connections, how to make your own decisions without anxiety, how to live a life free of fear, how to love freely and allow love from others. How can one do that when you are in a constant state of self protection?

In this episode you will hear some of the things that helped me when coming out of the fog, and not just the adoption fog. I had buried myself so deep in a hole that I literally felt like I was dying from the inside out. The false identity I had built was crumbling all around me and I just couldn't keep up the façade anymore. My true and authentic self was trying to emerge like a butterfly out of a cocoon and boy was it painful! BUT so worth it! Let me tell you how to start the journey of coming home to yourself, your true authentic self and start living a life you love!

Do you know what your Attachment Style is? There are four types, and only one is considered healthy!

What does your attachment style say about you and how you approach relationships? Take a listen to the episode and see if you can identify which one you are. Then take the quiz and find out if you were right! Let me know what you got as a result and if you thought that was the one you would get. Mine was right on!

Attachment types can greatly affect the adoptee. Research has shown that our attachment style is largely shaped as young children by our interactions with our parents or caregivers and can affect our relationships for our entire lives. By knowing your style, you will be better equipped to recognize your triggers and why you do what you do in your relationships. Some research has also shown that we can change our attachment styles to improve how we connect with others.

Part 2 of Donna's story tells about the strange twists of how she found her birth father's side of the family. We also talk about what the "Frozen Baby" is and what it means to adoptees.

Donna Marie Joseph was with her birth mother for a few months before she was taken and adopted by wonderful parents that loved and raised her as their own. The only problem was, Donna was a mixed race child and her parents were both white. This lead to self esteem issues and the need to find someone that looked like her. 

At the age of 12 Donna felt the primal urge to see a picture of her birthmother and this lead to the start of many revelations and self discovery for her. It also ultimately lead to her leaving home, and finding herself in an abusive relationship. How did she start to find her way back to herself? Find out in episode one of Donna's story.

What is Adoption Fog, and what are some ways that we can come home to ourselves? Sometimes coming out of the fog can be scary and disorienting. It is so easy to get stuck because there are so many questions and it's difficult to know where to begin. Who am I really? And how do I figure that out? How can we navigate our way back to who WE really are? 

Rick has discovered that because of adoptee trauma, sometimes our energy centers, or chakras, can get blocked. What an interesting concept! And so true! Rick has recorded some meditations with adoptees in mind to help to unblock those chakras so we can feel healthier mentally as well as physically.
