    Effect on Emotions
I learned a technique called neuro-emotional technique, which I became certified in, and then if I am not processing an emotion, I'm a somatic processor. So my body lets me know, I'll either belch or I usually will get a headache, and then I will work through what was it and it's usually one that's like shame, a difficult one that I don't want to feel. When it's triggering something from the past I go back and figure out what that is.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing will keep you alive. I woke up from one operation and they told me right before it was an emergency one, or they had to cut me all the way open and they said you will probably wake up with a ventilator.
Being on a ventilator respirator and the first thing you're going to notice is you're wanting to instinctively pull it out. So your hands are going to be tied down and I had to wait for two days. I looked at the clip and covered the clock up because I kept looking at the clock because I couldn't say anything. I had to do yes and no through eye motions, but I had to learn to force myself to breathe with the machine.
I am all about breathing when you have a panic attack or anxiety; it's about getting your breath and getting that under control, for instance, breathing exercises, deep breathing, and all forms of breathing. Don't stay in this shallow breathing, get it down to the belly.

    Bullying Story
It was recently with my parents. I got sick again about eight years ago. We were going on overdue when I was on a honeymoon, and I invited my parents to come to stay in Hawaii at our home.
And I got really sick. My mother told me the reason I got sick was that I had a Buddha in the house. She told me that I looked like a wreck, was sick, and I wasn't beautiful anymore. She said that I was doing something to make myself sick. She wanted to know if I was going to church and I said, No. I go to church at the beach. And I love meditating on my walks on the beach and in the ocean.
She said, Well, you're not a Christian now and my heart just sank. Because here she is this ultra-religious lady, doing what Jesus said, Judge not lest you be judged. So she got up from the table and left me there. And I looked at my dad, and I said, Dad, do you believe her? And he said, Wait, you've looked better and, and that was it.
My husband didn't know about that conversation till I had a panic attack and had to go into the hospital for that. And then they left. And that was, I finally got the courage to separate from my parents. Unfortunately, it took me a long time, because I was still trying to get from them what they couldn't give me.
We really do want it and, and will suffer greatly trying to get something from them that they can't give us.

    Bullying Story
Bullying happens during adulthood as well. When I was in high school, I was really short. I was an excluded kid and it was not a safe environment to be yourself. That's what blows my mind when our brains are in critical development. That's when the quality of our relationships and friendships and connections with others are the least secure.
So if we really want to fix these intractable problems in society, we need to address the quality of relationships that are present in children and in teenagers.
So I'm gonna give you an example that actually happened recently. So 2021, I'm just coming out of a business partnership with two of my co-founders. And one of my co-founders, he's like a brother to me, we went to a festival, I brought him on to the main stage of a festival.
They're in my men's group, two of these men are brothers to me. And they plan their first ever retreat. They don't invite me. They don't explain why they haven't invited me. And then they asked to use my speaker for the retreat. And they invited people who they're not even friends with.
It really hurt like, I haven't experienced that level of hurt. That's the greatest form of ostracization I've experienced because it was people I trusted, people who I thought were my best friends.
Essentially, they had no idea. They were totally incompetent. They had no intention to be malicious.
How could mindfulness have helped? I think it's more conscious empathy or conscious forecasting of other people's feelings that would have been helpful. The Party Scientist

    1/ Walks
Walking provides great cardio and is so healthy for us in many way. It's especially good as we get older, but it's excellent exercise for anyone of any age. Walking is great for our mental health and is terrific for our physical health and coordination. so

    2/ Petting, Brushing, and Stroking
Sadie and Charlie both loved being petted, and brushed; they never seemed to get tired of it. soI don't know of a dog that doesn't enjoy those things. It was not only something that they enjoyed, but as long as I settled back and relaxed and just allowed myself to enjoy it, then it was a great experience for me as well. You can look at it as a type of therapy because you're not only giving pleasure to your dog, but you are giving pleasure and health benefits to yourself. It helps us feel good as long as we allow the whole action of petting and stroking and brushing and combing to really feel good and be a mindful experience. Sink into it and allow it to be therapeutic for you. so
    3/ Connections to others
I dedicated this episode to my friend Lindsay. She has two dogs, Ashkee and Willow and they have been a gift in her life.  She's told me lots of different stories about Ashkee and Willow and I've told her stories about Sadie and Charlie. That's only a small example, if you're a dog owner, I'm sure you can think of many times when you've met people and the topic of your dogs have come up. Before long, you are connecting with that other person as a result of your connection to dogs. so
    4/ Help With Emotions
Having a dog can help with our emotions. This is a topic we talk about a lot on Mindfulness Mode. Lots of times we don't stop and consider our emotions enough, and we sometimes tend to push our emotions down and not allow ourselves to be aware of our emotions. If you feel angry, allow yourself to feel angry, and the same is true for grief and sadness. Avoid pushing your emotions away. so
Having a dog can just really help you to relax and settle into your own space in the world. If you've been listening to Mindfulness Mode for a while, you know that we often talk about breathing. Sit with your dog and just take some deep breaths and relax and allow your time together to be a time of mindfulness. so
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, chronic stress can lead to health issues, including increased risk of depression and anxiety, and difficulties with learning. Stress can also negatively affect memory, concentration, and your ability to sleep easily and deeply. Stress can lower your immune system function. All of this stress can make it more challenging to be calm and focused and in the present moment. Dogs can help us connect with and feel our emotions more fully. so
    5/ Reduce tension
If you own a dog you will probably feel a deep connection to your pet. If you're feeling down and discouraged, or if you're feeling excited they can read your emotions. Tuning into your dog and spending meaningful time together can help you connect more deeply to your emotions. Many of my friends who are dog owners have told me that when they spend time with their dog, they feel less anxiety and reduced tension. Spending time with your dog is a great way to unwind and let go of the day's frustrations.

    Effect on Emotions
Being mindful has been very important, especially in situations of high stress. So if you have a stressful event anywhere, your first instinct is to scream and yell and carry on. But if you take a deep breath and view the situation in a different light, it changes your action plan, which changes your outcome.
    Thoughts on Breathing
When you take a deep breath and count to ten, that's how long it should take you to breathe in and breathe out. It gives you space between you and what's happening and it also calms all the organs in your body and it brings your dopamine and your adrenaline down. When you do that, you can function better and make better executive decisions.

    The Risk of Social Media
The huge problem is social media because when guys start looking at Instagram, all these girls try to get more likes by showing themselves on Instagram, and this becomes a huge trigger.
We are bombarded today by all these messages about sexuality, that sexuality is good, and that it's okay to show your body in a very vulnerable way like they do on Instagram.
    Building Awareness Through Mindfulness
We certainly need to be in touch with our emotions through meditation and mindfulness. We can be more in touch with our true emotions and I think that we can also build better relationships with other people through being mindful. It creates a more healthy individual.
Similarities Between P*&n Detox and Losing Weight
One of the similarities is spending all your mental energy on your addiction or thinking about, let's say, p*&n or food or fighting your thoughts. It just doesn't leave any headspace for you to think about what the real problem is.
The root cause is that psychological deficit, but when you go on a smart diet, you do whatever works for you. You just start eating cleaner and then you'll notice that you don't crave food that much anymore. And because you don't spend that mental energy on thinking about food, planning food, and so on, you realize that there is something bigger; that this is why I was actually overeating. And that could be a relationship going wrong.
Trauma As A Cause of a P*&n Addiction
The most common example is that people get exposed to this habit very early on. Their brothers were watching it, or their parents were watching it, they saw it and they got hooked. And this is definitely a psychological trauma because a six-year-old is not supposed to see things like this.
Another example, which is also very common is parents who were achievers. And they pushed their son or their daughter to come to me for help. In some cases they push too much. They had very high expectations and on the other hand they did not give much love. So the person feels that they were not loved enough. And that's why they're always not enough, even though they may be 30 or 40 years old now.

    Effect on Emotions
Going back to my original definition of mindfulness, self-awareness. A lot of times when I can just say, Oh, I'm angry, what am I angry about? Alright, let me sit with this for a minute. It's easier to process emotions when you can be fully aware of what they are, and where they're coming from. Knowing that sometimes not about what it's about, and finding the actual original source of those emotions. Everyday Crystal Healing
    Thoughts on Breathing
I think breathing is such an important aspect of it. For me, it's the best way to go from the sympathetic, nervous response to the parasympathetic nervous response going from flight or fight or flight is to rest and digest and bring yourself internally when you're meditating. Are you doing yoga or just sitting at your desk, focusing on your breath and getting rid of all the noise? This brings you back to yourself and the power of everyday crystal healing.

I had a difficult relationship with my mother. She had narcissistic tendencies, she has since passed away. But I didn't really understand that or know that growing up. And when I was a young adult, I was very much aware from my upbringing that my self-worth rested in someone else's opinion of me, particularly hers.
I didn't know that was not accurate, so I made a lot of choices based on people-pleasing and making sure that everybody else was happy and finding my worth in other people. And then what I found that my now ex-husband, also has narcissistic tendencies.
It wasn't until after divorcing him and finding my worth and finding self-love; that has been the key to the turnaround in my life. Then I realized that those relationships were not healthy, that my self-worth resides in my mere existence, and that I do not need to please other people to find my own happiness. That is what attracts the joy and the beauty that I have in my life. Everyday Crystal Healing

  • Bridging the Gap between Spirituality and Science; D. Neil Elliott
    D. Neil Elliott was highly educated, owned a profitable consulting firm, and had a successful career and an amazing wife and family. But things were not all they seemed to be … Neil was facing a lot of challenges. In a phrase, he was in a dark place. Quite by accident, he discovered a Higher Road. As he traveled that road, he found the key to transforming his life. Over the course of the following year, Neil lifted himself to an inner state of love, peace, joy, and abundance. His perspectives on life changed entirely. His troubles and tribulations were his impetus to find the key that enabled him to revolutionize his life. He learned that the search for a better life does not entail positive thinking, saying affirmations, chanting mantras, or traveling to India to sit at the feet of a guru—or any other popularized method of “finding yourself.” …The key? To ascend in both spiritual perception and truth, you need to use the right process to break through your entrenched, human-ego barriers.

    Effect on Emotions
When you go through this process, mindfulness is part of the tool of helping me be aware of what I'm doing in the moment and with conscious thinking. But actually understanding this foundational stuff, allows that mindfulness to actually give me a different perspective of it. So it's actually becoming more powerful for me; without knowing what I now know about our truth of being or the source of where we come from and why we're here.
    Thoughts on Breathing
So when you are anxious or at a heightened state of anxiety, whether that's something that's exciting or fearful, for instance, if you can stop and bring your breath and be conscious and aware of your breath and slow it, the mind controls the body, the breath controls the mind.
So if you can actually breathe, you can start to control the anxiety and subdue the anxiety; whatever the source of that is. So breathing is very important in terms of the whole process of getting control of your thinking. Bridging the Gap Between Spirituality and Science

I was coming home from school. I don't know how old I was, there was a black child. So a black family moved into this community back in the 60s, of all white people. And there was this black child, and he was older than me. So maybe he was in grade five or grade six.
There were three older white boys, the same age as this black boy. And they were degrading this boy. They made them kneel down on the ground. I don't want to get into all kinds of specifics on this, but they made him kneel into the ground and they were spitting on him and calling them names.
I was like in grade three. I felt sorry for that kid; he didn't deserve that. At the time I felt like these kids should not be doing this. But I thought if I intervened I'd get the crap kicked out of me. So I avoided it but part of me right now would say, I kind of wish that little boy would have had the fortitude to step up and say stop that, even if I got beat up.
But you know, I didn't. It was a lesson that has stuck with me about how we treat other people.  Bridging the Gap Between Spirituality and Science

My favorite, I guess it's not a technique, it's more of a mindfulness technique and it's really a hypnotic induction. So to notice that when I breathe in how the air is cool and refreshing, and to notice that when I exhale, it's warm and relaxing.
And doing that just a few times puts me into a beautiful, trance-like state, or depending on the circumstance, it reminds me that it is safe to be here now. Hypnotic Approach to Wellness

    Bullying Story
So in middle school, I don't want to say that I was bullied because I saw people, I saw friends being bullied. And that was kind of different than being picked on a little bit. I was very small for my age, sometimes I was referred to as the runt of the family. I was smaller than everyone even though I was the oldest.
I was even called an Oompa Loompa for being so tiny and short. So those things kind of stuck with me but as far as being bullied, if you've ever ridden the school bus, bullying happens on the school bus.
So I drove my son to school every day. And I think that deep down, I wanted to protect him from what happened on the school bus.
I remember one time, some boys in the back of a bus, one boy was holding down the arm of a more scrawny kid. And the other one was just as far as I could tell they were going to break his arm. Therefore, I think mindfulness could have helped if I would have had the courage to say something. Hypnotic Approach to Wellness

    Effect on Emotions
It's being able to withstand both painful emotions and feel positive emotions. That's what mindfulness practice has allowed me to do. I don't have to push and pull on either one. I can be with what arises, no matter what it is. Mindfulness in Motion

    Thoughts on Breathing
Notice how much you hold your breath. During the day, just notice.
When I'm running, often, I'm not forcing my breath instead, I will try to let my body react, relax, and let it take a natural breath.  Mindfulness in Motion

    Bullying Story
I came from an alcoholic family, I was in and out of my own drinking and addiction, many very addictive behaviors with substances. Therefore
And I think that this mindful awareness of my own behavior, and realizing that there was something driving me that I was unaware of. As a result of my actions, I would get bullied because other people didn't like what I was doing. Therefore
So that awareness that there was something else going on, so much deeper, than I could have possibly worked with, to maybe modify my own behavior, or at least, be able to be with it without all the shame and guilt and things. Therefore
And then when the bullying did happen, having the compassion because that's one of the things in meditation is we develop mind states, one of which is loving kindness and so having the compassion for the person, another person to realize that they too, were coming from some kind of place of often fear, that's what usually it is, we're coming out of fear. Therefore
It's taken years of therapy, to help me understand that. But in the meditation practice, sitting with memories of that, the thoughts that come up now, the body sensations, especially being able to be with the discomfort, and then also having fond memories that I didn't really remember because there was so much of the kind of bad things that I didn't let them happen. So
So when you're still or when you do meditation, even mindfulness in motion, when you let the rest of the world drop away, whether it's through in the writing practice the sitting in moving meditation, the rest of the world rep drops away, and joyous memories can come up.
