So when I get upset, I ask myself, Why are you upset? What is triggering me? What's hurting me?
In conclusion, I try to delve into that subconscious a little bit more and see what's brought up in me that is making me react the way I'm reacting.
Therefore, every time I get upset that way and also the joyful moments, I think I blow them up even bigger than they already are.
Similarly, I see them as such precious jewels, I make them louder in my life than the hard times in the struggles. So
    Thoughts on Breathing
    Breathing is very important.
Yoga taught me how to breathe properly, it brings you into your body.
So it is very important to be grounded in your body for the fight/flight and for anxiety, to bring yourself back to the present moment and nurture yourself.

So I would be that quiet little redheaded girl in the corner, not saying a word and trying to just melt into the furniture and the fabric of the place, I didn't want to be recognized at all. certainly
I was an easy target for bullies. consequently
When I was in kindergarten, a boy in the fourth grade, chased and hit me over the head with his lunchbox as I was running home up the hill.
In other words, there's physical bullying, and emotional bullying.
For instance, when picking teams, I was one of the last kids to be picked because nobody knew who I was.
But I have to give Louisville a lot of credit because it was the first place where the people were very welcoming. So Above all

  • Music for Mindfulness; Dave Combs
Dave Combs is a songwriter, author, photographer, and publisher. A native of Erwin, Tennessee, Dave grew up in a family that enjoyed making music. His songwriting began with the now popular standard, Rachel’s Song, which was arranged and recorded by Gary Prim in 1986. Since then, Dave has written over 120 songs and recorded 15 albums of soft, soothing, and relaxing instrumental music that has touched the lives of millions around the world.
An article written by Dave about how music has changed his life and touched the lives of millions of people appeared in Guideposts magazine. Click here to see the article.

    Effect on Emotions
When I need to relax, calm down and become in a mindful mode, I'll sit at the piano. That's my mechanism.
Some people will go to their quiet place and close their eyes and say their mantras or whatever they do. I sit at the piano.
Sometimes I don't even play at attuning. I'll just play a chord on the piano.
I love my Steinway grand piano. I'll just play a chord on that grand piano, it will sound for about a minute before the sound completely dies away.
There's something about paying attention and trying to say, Do I still hear that zone? Do you hear it fade away? and as you're doing that, It does something to you to center you and help you focus. That's how we have music for mindfulness.
    Thoughts on Breathing
I've read a lot about the power of slowly exhaling.
You can just slowly breathe out that will help. It'll bring your heart rate down and help bring your blood pressure down.
A lot of us these days have our Apple watches and it has a breathing function on their way. It will guide you as you inhale, and exhale in a very slow rhythm (music for mindfulness).
    Insight To Your Creativity?
I am a Christian, and I have a deep faith in Jesus Christ. And I believe that this song was given to me.
I can still remember sitting down at that piano that evening in January of 1981. It was strange while playing this song. As a musician, you can sit down and you'll play whatever song that you want to play but commonly it's something written by somebody else.
I just set and I played, and the song never changed. I didn't have to work at it. I just played it.
It had to have been an inspired gift to me because I did not work at it. It was as if it had always existed. And I was just blessed to be the first person to actually play it.

  • An Overactive Mind Achieving Balance; Daniel Hess
Daniel Hess is a Writer/Filmmaker born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. After losing his best friend/cousin to Cystic Fibrosis when he was 10, Daniel began his first foray into writing and poetry. As he grew up and at the behest of his close friend in high school, Daniel pursued filmmaking in college. After graduating from Towson University in 2012, he fell into life quickly, but thanks to a few mentors could find a footing in corporate/event videography. While this became a place of steady income, it was something that kept creativity far out of reach. At age 28, after receiving word that he would soon need heart surgery, a new spark for letting a creative voice be heard emerged again. Over the course of the last three years, Daniel stepped away from the event videography space, committing his company, To Tony Productions, to only producing original short and feature film productions. In January 2021, Daniel self-published his first book, a collection of poetry entitled Just a Boy Blaming Himself. In January 2022, Daniel underwent successful open-heart surgery and on June 6th, 2022 will be releasing his first novel, Focus Puller. He is also currently producing several feature films as well.

I used to be more like things would push me to an angry place, way easier when I was younger but thinking through, stopping, and pausing has just made a world of difference with all of that. Especially when you think that life is short and obstacles happen.
We just need to push forward and balance everything. So mindfulness has been just a huge help with that in my life.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Certainly, when I'm doing events where everything is very fast-paced, just taking that moment to step somewhere where it's a little calmer, and just taking a couple of deep breaths to balance everything makes such a world of difference for me.
I'm able to say, this is a little overwhelming. But step by step, we can make it through, and just that little 30 seconds of pause helps me to just balance, center, and kind of keep moving forward with everything, no matter how challenging it can be.

    Bullying Story
I can remember in middle school and early high school, there was one kid in particular, who would always just say very nasty things and try to get under my skin.
The thing for me was trying to understand why this person was acting the way they were. And inevitably, what resolved the issue was going to the school like a therapist person, that bully and me, just sitting down and talking.
What ended up being realized was that the two of us weren't really all that different. It was just he had some insecurities or things that he was working through.
And inevitably, we actually ended up not becoming super close friends. We were friends by the end of the time at that school.
But I think the thing is that, just by engaging in conversation, because I think the attitude in school is like you got to stand up for yourself, and with violence. But I was always of the mindset that it was just like, I think it just needs to be a conversation.

    Effect on Emotions
The first thing I do every morning is writing (journaling) about my life for the first 14 to 20 minutes. The way I would like it to be as opposed to how it actually is.
It helps me to be mindful emotionally, physically, and spiritually, about where I want to be at any point in time in my life. So that is a thing that I do. I learned that from a child,
    Thoughts on Breathing
So I started practicing learning journaling and meditation some few years ago, taking time to actually hear my breath. This is not something that seems normal.
Likewise, I've heard you mention in one of your podcasts about walking. I'll walk and just silence everything. I'll put noise-canceling headphones on and just listen to my breath.

    Bullying Story
First, I think we live in a society where we're all bullied in different ways, it just matters how you decide to proceed.
My son has had situations where he felt bullied by either the professor or bullied by a teammate.
Certainly, one of the things we do is just recognize that whatever that is, it's temporary.
Oftentimes, what people are saying about you is not so much about you, but it's a reflection of how they feel about themselves.
Above all, the most important thing to remember is what it is that you think and feel about yourself. Moreover, I'd say the other thing, is to not give so much time and attention and weight to the negative, unless you're equally willing to give the same amount of time, attention, and weight to the positive.
So if you say someone bullies you and you're focusing on the bullying part, what do we do with the people who praise us?
However, when people praise us or say really positive things about us, we don't give that the same time and attention as we do to the things that are negative.

I was a Guru junkie and I worked with many eastern Yogic teachers so I will not say one specific person.
The Guru-disciple relationship, which is a spiritual commitment that you make with a teacher is so important in my story. I couldn't have been the person I am today without having surrendered my ego to a teacher.
    Effect on Emotions
Before mindfulness I was a basket case. My emotions have become, what we call in yoga, equipoints.
Emotions are important teachers, they show us what we're supposed to do in life.
I'm now able to be productive, I'm not a slave of my emotions.
When I feel an emotion, now I know that's where I am supposed to go.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Breath is the connection between our unconscious self and our being able to be awake.
The more conscious we are of each breath we take, the more awake and aware and mindful we are.
If we are never aware of breathing, we are not a very mindful or awakened person.
You could be aware of every breath you take and that's a lovely thing instead of having obsessive-compulsive thinking.
Breath gives you a kind of steadiness. I use the analogy of saddling onto a horse. The breath is a horse and you ride your breath and it takes you to amazing places deep within your own being.

I taught girls who were in prison for various reasons. Most of them were gang girls and addicts who were no longer able to do their partying.
There's a lot of bullying in prison. These juvenile detention places need yoga and meditation and they need teachers to come in to show these young people the state of love.
Most of these people don't have good role models and many of them had terrible parenting. They are out there on their own and it's just like a ‘dog-eat-dog' world.

One of my business partners has been an absolute inspiration to just kind of step back and think about the situation where we're at. There was a singular event in which he could snap me out of a spiral I was in that completely changed my future.
    Effect on Emotions
I've never been a big yeller. But I used to get very, very upset when things weren't right. My brother, and I used to get into large arguments within the organization.  We finally started switching and going. Because every time I'm upset, something happened. I'm the leader.
What did I do to cause this, and that changed how our decision-making happened.  We just want to fix what we did.
    Thoughts on Breathing
I also did breathwork for the first time two years ago, an actual breathwork session. It was the biggest game-changer mentally for business I've ever done, it actually changed how I live a chunk of my life.
So I live out in the country and one of the most important things to me, I'm going to take a walk and just breathe as deep as I can to just kind of let things move through me.

    Bullying Story
So I'll take about five, six years back, we had a supervisor, and the supervisor effectively got results, that put up some of the best numbers in the company. But it was weird, you walk anywhere in our buildings, and people are smiling, talking joking around, also, you go into their sector, and that wasn't the case.
So we started looking into it and understand that while they weren't getting results, they were doing it by surely bullying their employees. It was like if you didn't hit your numbers, you're near a piece of this.
We took this person's side and said, Hey, I need you to really think about what you are here. And they're like, Well, what I gotta be forceful on everybody. I gotta do this. Think about what you're doing? And what, what do you mean?
What is this really about? Take the fear away, take what can we do today to fix the problem that and you fall in and out of traps like that on a regular basis.

My father has been a huge mindfulness supporter of mine. That is to say, anytime I do a talk and I struggle with something I can't make two sentences flow or make it make sense. So I don't know where to go, what to do, what to step into. Therefore, my father is a huge influence on me in doing that, keeping me on track and moving me in the right direction.
    Effect on Emotions
I feel like I grew up in an era where you didn't speak unless spoken to. That is to say, I'm also a man who thought there was an unwritten rule. “Thou shalt not express emotions to anyone you check that stuff right inside”.
So I think just as I've gotten older and understood that invulnerability comes strength, and I've realized that me being able to open up my chest and be able to look at a man like you and say, “Listen! I've got pain, I'm broken. I've been heartbroken. I've got these things that I'm wrestling with and dealing with. I find true strength and vulnerability”. So that's super helpful.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing is extremely important when it comes to anything, whether it's mindfulness or even just being able to make sure that you maintain a conscious thought and conscious behavior.
For example, your subconscious brain constitutes 95% of what you think about and that means five or 10 is left.
So one of the main ways that you can actually be in touch with who you are, what you are when you are, why you are and your surroundings are to slow your breathing down and be very conscious about your body scanning and being able to close your eyes, take deep breaths and go through a mental checklist.

Firstly, he would miss the social aspect of what his senior year would look like, he would miss all the interactions, from senior trips, the prom, and all those things.
So when I first got started with him, the first thing we put in is a list of what to say, when you talk to yourself is extremely important. We build some affirmations.
Then we talk about if you treated yourself like your best friend, would you say any of the things that you say to yourself repeatedly, for instance, I'm dumb, I'm stupid, I can't get this, I'm never gonna amount to this.
Certainly, you don't let your best friend talk to himself or herself like that. So why would you talk to yourself like that?
Therefore, we did a mindset shift and transform this into how to become a great thinker, some of the commonalities behind being a great thinker? Let's get obsessed with observing the masses and doing the opposite.

Firstly, I look to communicate more effectively, through mindfulness.
Then when I notice headtrash or notice fear, worry, anxiety, and emotions that are creeping up, I do something with them, certainly, it usually means I need to communicate with someone in some way to decrease the stress associated with it.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Most importantly, breathing is a really good thing. Even just starting today, a nice deep breath in and letting it out just gives me a sense of power in my body and clears my head.
Therefore when I go to bed, it really helps to decrease that emotional stress. It goes back to that model that I shared.
So when you decrease emotional stress, you gain clarity. And that allows you to take productive action. So even if the productive action is sleep, that breathing allows me to decrease and step outside of whatever is going on in that crazy brain.

  • Walking For Mindfulness
Walking For Mindfulness is my topic for today, Mindful Tribe. I look forward to sharing with you, ‘Five Benefits of Walking'. You may already include a regular routine of walking in your life, or you may decide to start a walking practice. There are lots of benefits including the five I will outline today. I am convinced thatyour life will improve as a result of 30 to 60 minutes of daily walking. You may decide to walk 4 or 5 days a week rather than daily, and that will be a benefit as well.

    1/ Walk Almost Anywhere
Whether you're at home, or you're traveling, there are all sorts of options as to where you can walk. Maybe up and down the stairwells if you're in a hotel room or conference center. If you're in a hotel, ask about the location of safe pathways to walk where there are some parks and forests. Do some research to find where you can walk in the area of your home. A lot of towns and cities have pathways that are specifically designated for walking.
    2/ Creates Focused Thinking
Your brain will begin to work better if you take some time to go and have a walk. How many times have you been in a stressful situation and somebody will say, Well, I'm just going for a walk. That's because a walk will release some of the pressure. Research has shown that it actually promotes the release of brain chemicals including endorphins that stimulate relaxation and can improve our mood. A walk at a comfortable pace can promote relaxation and release serotonin and dopamine to help you feel better. Dopamine is the hormone that gives us the pleasurable feeling after receiving a reward. If you're like me, you may be surprised how much better you'll feel after a walk and you'll want to continue walking for mindfulness.
    3/ Increase Your Fitness Level
Walking gives you a chance to focus on your breathing, take deep breaths, get your body moving, and increase circulation because that's what we need to increase our fitness level. Walking will help increase your mindfulness and your mental fitness. It can help with stress, depression, anxiety, and it can also improve your sleep, which is a big deal because a lot of people struggle with having deep sleep and struggle with falling asleep. In the last five or six years since I've been walking and running on a daily basis, I don't have any trouble sleeping. I encourage you to start this practice of walking on a regular basis.
    4/ Closer To Nature
As you walk, pay specific attention to any natural elements, including trees, or plants or water. Even if you're walking in a city there will be certain aspects of nature that you can focus on including the sky, the sun, the moon, and the stars. And as well as that, notice your own natural rhythm including your breathing and your heartbeat. Take time to notice as many elements of nature as you can while you walk.
    5/ Mantras or Affirmations
Walking gives you a chance to focus on one or several mantras. Let the affirmations flow in your mind over and over. There are several that I use when I walk or run including, ‘My life is renewed daily; mentally, physically, emotionally'. I think of that sentence over and over and also the following sentence; ‘My life is renewed daily, mentally, physically, emotionally'. Another affirmation I like is; ‘Creativity helps me grow and thrive'. By repeating this mantra, it reminds me to include as much creativity in my life as I can. Another mantra that I like, includes the word compassion, because I believe that the more we can live our lives with compassion, the happier we'll feel, and the more contented we'll be. Thinking of compassion for others, and compassion for other things and situations truly can help us feel more compassion for ourselves. So here's the mantra that I suggest on that topic; ‘I see everyone and everything with compassion'.
And this gives me a real chance to, to stretch and exercise my ability to truly see everyone and everyth

  • Holistic Parenting Simplified; Julie Hatch
Julie Hatch is a pediatric nurse practitioner, an acupuncturist, a parenting specialist, and a mom. She is a traditional western medicine practitioner, turned alternative holistic practitioner. Her passion has always been helping kids. She spent many years working in pediatrics, first in pediatric intensive care, then in neonatal intensive care. Eventually, her focus shifted, and she found her way into the realm of eastern medicine and holistic health. Julie finds that blending both traditional western medicine with traditional eastern medicine is ideal in her work to promote health. She finds there is great merit to both approaches. She believes that in parenting, following a more holistic path not only makes sense in working with kids, but it also makes parenting life a whole lot easier.

    Effect on Emotions
If you can start to be able to, I'm still learning mindfulness, I think we all are trying to practice it and perfect it, which probably will never happen, perfect. But it helps in centering yourself, not letting your emotions take over that are trying to get out of here where your emotions are thinking about your emotions and your fears, and your worries, and your anger and all that.
But to be centered here, and to breathe, and to focus on the breath, and let try which helps to let those emotions go and then come back and deal with them when you're in a better place. So it's more responding to emotions and reacting to emotions also,
    Thoughts on Breathing
I've just started doing an online program with a Buddhist teacher who's all about breathing, and the whole thing, the whole course is on breathing, I only just started. So I can't tell you everything that it says. But the breath has any app that uses breathing and teaches you how to just close your eyes and breathe and pay attention to the breathing. And it takes practice at first you know, you're even when the app is talking to you.
You're hearing all the chatter in your head. But with practice, they teach you to learn how to go back to your breath. And that's the fundamentals I think mindfulness is one of the basics.

    Bullying Story
It's important to listen to your child, hear what they're saying and what their version of the story is. Give them your feedback. Listen, and pay attention to what they're saying and what they're feeling.
I have heard that bullies are victims of being bullied themselves, certainly.
If your child is being bullied, if you can convince them and help them to learn how to stand up for themselves.
I know a lot of our kids benefit from martial arts for many, many reasons. But one of them is that they can stand up for themselves in a very healthy way. And it adds a lot of confidence usually too. Martial arts are really helpful in all kinds of ways, probably for all kids.
