Give Yourself Permission to Live A Big Life
What do you think of when you hear about a great life? Luxury? Importance, value, impact? When we're talking about the big picture, its about adventure, love, an open heart, an open mind, full expression, freedom, peace, fear, joy, despair, and all of it. In this week's episode, Rae Irelan talks about permitting yourself to live a great life.
Part One of ‘Give Yourself Permission to Live A Big Life’
Permission means consent or authorization. Big means considerable importance, size, extent, or intensity. I ask you to open your mind and heart to open your spirit to receiving a message around something more. So, a new reality where you choose what your great life looks like.
We all have different ideas of what a big life is. Who do you associate with having a big life? Some minds go to the rich uncle that has ten cars, the overindulgent spender, a spoiled child. This isn’t that. When we're thinking of a big life, perhaps there are others on that list that might be your life superheroes. Mine are Oprah, Beyoncé, Tony Robbins, and many more. What are they demonstrating? They're expressing how they experience life and what they're giving to life. Not just what they're taking. There's a lot of abundance. But they're giving back, which is so cool.
There's a confusion that can come with living your big life. When we hear about this great life, most of us experience a mixed bag of emotions. We aren't able to sort out our feelings because there's no clear example we can follow. But there are sorts of cases. Some that might inspire, and some that might leave a terrible taste in your mouth.
No one is here to tell you what to be, what to do, and who to be.
I have friends whose great life looks like living on a beautiful collective farm. Others want a shack by the beach or a mansion on a hill. Others a high rise in a city. Very different lives, right? What do you want? Who do you want to be? What does your big life look like? We can start this process with you. Give yourself permission to dream and to dream bigger. When I say imagine bigger, let your heart align with your truth. What does your vision look like? What does it feel like? What does it taste like? What does it smell like?
Part Two of ‘Give Yourself Permission to Live A Big Life’
Open all of your senses up to a higher possibility of alignment. Sometimes we need people to permit us. I know I did for a long time either from my parents, teachers, best friend, brother, my boyfriend, or maybe a mentor that I had in my life. I would ask them what they think about specific ideas. I would ask them what they think about my outfit, about a particular meal, the list goes on and on. Many times, I would get excited about what they said, and follow along.
“Don’t let your fear be in the driver’s seat of your life.” – Rae Irelan (08:09-08:20)
We can get us into sticky situations and codependent relationships. Start to think about who you are getting your advice from. I loved all the people that I was getting my advice from. I deeply respected them. But when it came down to knowing what a great life should be, no one could tell me a direction for my life or what my truth looked like. That was for me to discover and decide upon. Since I didn't know how to do that for myself, I didn't know how to give myself permission. A mentor of mine told me: you have full permission right now to do what you want. No matter what anyone else says.
You can live the most aligned life possible. You have full permission to create this for yourself. Go for it and have fun. How does that feel? A lot of times, there's self-sabotage that comes up immediately. “I can't, I won't.” Ignore that. Think this: I know you have valuable information for me, but right now, I don't want to hear this. I'm going towards my dreams. I'm doing what I want to do. I'm living my fabulous life.
I tend to bring my fears along because they're a valid and essential part of myself, my message, and my being. But I don't need them to be in the driver's seat. I will be in the passenger seat. You start to take ownership, not control. Write this permission slip on a piece of paper for yourself. Write yourself a permission slip and put it in your wallet. Put it around your house, put it on your doors, on your mirror so that way you can remind yourself regularly of the permission that you are granting yourself. It is entirely yours. It's something that I practice daily. Being a natural people pleaser, I've discovered that the more that I can remind myself that I have full permission, the more my imagination starts to work.
In the process of giving yourself full permission to live a great life, you've got to let go of those expectations. Let go of control. Let go of thinking that you know what it looks like because you don't. No one knows. Not even your mentor, not even your best friend, and not even your parents. So let go of that control and continue to focus. Continue to vision on that dream and experience that fulfillment of waking up and being excited to live your utterly perfect life. It doesn't have to be this crazy luxurious life, but it can be perfect for you.
What does it look like to dream bigger, to grow more than you ever allowed yourself to be? What does your big life look like? Have you given yourself full permission yet? Maybe we’re a few steps closer after listening to this. You're on your way. You've got this.
