Masked Man #54 is the New Feminist. Now that we are past the halfway point, I thought I should bring back the conversation on what it means to be a modern male feminist today and bring back a similar conversation to very first interview I had on the show. In this episode we talk a lot about anger, how emotions manifest physically among men, and how suppression of emotions is the root cause to a lot of toxic masculine behaviour. Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. If you’ve been following this podcast, I started a project about 6 months ago to interview 100 men all around the world anonymously to get a better understanding of what life is like for them in today’s modern world. And I’ve past the halfway point with over 50 interviews! You’d think, now there’s no turning back, right? 

Even though I’m getting more listens, more people are sending me messages about how much they enjoy the show, more men are being referred to me to be interviewed, I’m constantly wanting to just drop the mic (literally) and quit.

What I don’t talk about is the fact that the wire on my mic cuts in and out, the zoom calls drop often with the inconsistent wifi in Mexico, and a bunch of guys I've personally reached out to refused to be interviewed for the show and in general, after speaking to more than 50 guys I still don’t think I can talk to men. For every positive there is a negative. It’s up to you to choose which to focus on.

Today I want to talk about keeping a commitment to yourself. Commitment is not something we just throw around, we do this out of loyalty and respect. We are so quick to make commitments for work or for others, always telling ourselves we'll get to ourselves at the end when everyone else is covered. If a commitment reflects loyalty and respect, why do we choose to break commitments to the one person that matters most? Keeping a commitment to yourself is the highest form of self love.

This week is all about challenges, so let's challenge some judgments about alcoholism and sobriety. Are sober people doomed to be boring people?

Masked Man #53 is the Cali Sober. We really connected on the topic of alcoholism, how it started out all fun and games, and then went really dark really fast. And the journey to sobriety - interacting with people again as this new version of you, and how that can look like in dating and sex. I honestly didn’t think I would find anyone who could relate with me and my struggle of having sex sober and I really enjoyed his open approach to this, allowing more space for each individual to pave their own path to recovery. I hope you enjoy the show.

Speaking of challenges, I found a brain to pick here in Tulum and I am so grateful to be able to share this conversation. We move from general concepts to get up close and personal, maybe even too personal for comfort.

Masked Man #51 is the Serial Entrepreneur. You know the type, a people person, able to connect quickly with anyone, and is always down for some business brainstorming. But what if we remove all those layers and we can only talk about feelings and who we are, not what we do? Challenge accepted. He shares his experiences meeting women in Tulum, his new approach to relationships following his divorce, and what really matters to him when he thinks about compatibility and his role as a man. The theme for Season 3 is liberation through dialogue. A conversation can set you free. A genuine exchange of ideas, thoughts, feelings and stories without judgment, without an agenda, without expectation. We don’t have enough conversations like this. We are all playing the lead in our own solo monologue with occasional, very selective, feature guests. 

When I targeted specific men to talk about a subject matter, they had to wear a mask to show they held an opinion. Because otherwise why have the conversation, if not to present your unique perspective? What if there wasn’t a point to it. How would the conversation change? I hope you enjoy the show.

So much of what we hear about sex trafficking is just one story, an innocent girl is taken away from her home. But if the story doesn't follow that exact script, is it not deserving to be told? Today's episode challenges how we look at victims of sexual abuse, whose story is more valid than the other, and how do we go about understanding others experiences without having to experience it ourselves.

Masked Man #50 is the Resilient Man. He's a teen sex traffic survivor and how he stands up to share his story 10 years later with three others. I love that we talk about the movie Taken and the conventional version of sex trafficking and I really hope this broadens your perspective on the idea. That there is more to this than just someone being taken away against their will. I hope you enjoy the show.

I've noticed a trend of some guys speaking about the fear of getting 'me too-ed' like it's a verb now - so I sought out someone who actually experienced the process of allegedly being falsely accused for aggravated sexual assault.

Masked Man #49 is the Exonerated Man. He shares his side of the story, from the arrest coming out of nowhere on a typical drive to work, news stories using Tinder as the weapon, his relationship with a dispassionate lawyer and not one, not even two, but three allegations from three different women. Before you ask me if I believe him, let me ask you, does it matter? I'm just here to find out the truth. I hope you enjoy the show.
