  • The Beauty in Tragedy with the cast of Wounded

Welcome back to another episode of the Miss Amanda Chen Show Podcast. As we approach the first half of the 100 Masked Men Series, I am realizing the power of perspective.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the cast of Wounded, a play I had the chance to see in the comfort of my home. Leveraging Zoom choreography, inspired by the 5 stages of grief, Wounded is an exceptionally innovative theatre play about sexual violence highlighting not only the untold stories of victims, but their individual personalities, and what made them who they were.

I hope this episode touches you as it did me, in the need to have more conversations about tough topics, and to keep talking about them. Let's not wait for everyone to experience terrible things before we discuss it after the fact. Change comes through conversation. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 48/100: The Little Brother

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all around the world about gender roles and expectations in the modern world today. And this week we are getting pretty deep into taboo conversations, especially around sex, our kinks, and how to communicate and exercise consent.

Masked Man #48 is the Little Brother. With older sisters of 4 and 7 years, he shares his journey in understanding women by observing their behaviours. One of the most memorable experiences was in dating a feminist and learning about BDSM and consent in order to please his partner. As someone who always wants to encourage the subject of consent, I realized even I struggle with discussing it in practice and properly articulating my boundaries. Let's get into it. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 47/100: The Rape Card

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all walks of life about gender roles, expectations from society and how that affects our self worth.

Trigger warning on the content of today’s episode. The worst thing anyone has ever said to me was I deserved to be raped. And unfortunately I found another man who heard those same words said to him. And to take things further, the worst thing anyone has ever said to him, was to be called a rapist as a rape victim.

Masked Man #47 is the Rape Card. This gets interesting because we never hear a man’s perspective on this subject mainly because we only see a man raping a woman and perhaps it is too uncomfortable to see it reversed. We share both of our perspectives and notice how different it is for both of us. But what do we share in common? The desire for violence, aggressive, degrading sex. We unpack this in very granular detail, so get that popcorn going, this is a wild one. Cinematic even. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 46/100: The Redefined Man

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all around the world  about what masculinity means to them in the modern world today.

In the last interview we spoke about the ideas we create in our heads about who we think we are, and what we think we deserve. In this episode I found a man that is your conventional masculine looking man, and how he challenges the norm to redefine himself in modern society.

Masked Man #46 is the Redefined Man. As a man that you might consider the generic masculine man that followed all the typical tropes, in the military, in sports, in aggression, and in that process redefining what masculinity means to him. A really cool thing I learned about is how we avoid being completely seen. And yet we want to be seen, but we are afraid of the judgment that comes with it. Let's get into it. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 45/100: The New Kid

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all walks of life about gender roles, expectations from society and how that affects our self worth.

This week we talk about self identity. In the story we tell ourselves about who we are, and where those ideas come from.

Masked Man #45 is the New Kid. He's in his early twenties, living humbly, doesn't use social media and yet shares his story of social anxiety as a teenager, and how that deliberate self isolation resulted in depression and ultimately forced him to drop out of school.

And it makes me wonder how much more amplified those feelings of unworthiness, of not being enough can be if he was actively on social media. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • The Power of Perspective

Welcome back to another episode of the Miss Amanda Chen Show! I have been interviewing nonstop for the 100 masked men series, where I speak with anonymous men from all around the world about the invisible masks they are wearing, and really trying to learn about who they are, rather than what they do.

All throughout March have been working closely with our very first partner on this show, Tethr, an app that focuses on building community for peer to peer support for mens mental health.

I also challenged myself to be interviewed as a guest on other podcasts. It was a fun switch up. it was my turn to take a back seat and start answering some questions. Funny enough, I spoke on two podcasts about how gender plays a role in communication. one podcast was led by men, and the other by women. Make sure to check out A Coming Of Age Podcast hosted by Frank and Azam and Modern Romance Podcast hosted by Nicole. Links below!

  • Masked Man 44/100: The Masked Mentor

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all around the world about what masculinity means to them, gender expectations and how that affects how they interact with women.

This month we are taking a special focus on men's mental health, sponsored by Tethr, The world’s first online, peer-to-peer support community connecting men for open and honest conversations about life. This week I'm highlighting the different lives of Asian men.

Masked Man #44 is the Masked Mentor. He shares his story on losing a relationship with a mentor he truly admired, and appreciating the growth of that loss as one of the most precious learnings towards his personal development. If there are no consequences, what is there to learn from a mistake?

We talk about what being a man of integrity means, which communication tactics that brings peoples walls down, and brings peoples walls up, and how to look at our emotions not as good or bad, but just acknowledge all the feelings that make us human. Let's get into it. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 43/100: The Successful Man

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all around the world  about what masculinity means to them and how we put our self worth in the hands of others.

This month we are taking a special focus on men's mental health, sponsored by Tethr, The world’s first online, peer-to-peer support community connecting men for open and honest conversations about life. This week I'm highlighting the many different lives of Asian men.

Masked Man #43 is the Successful Man. In his early 20s, who courageously walked out of a job at Amazon to start up his own venture, fail, and start again, is now on his own path to finding out what really matters to him. We talk a lot about the conventional idea of success, which includes money and power and access, but then when it comes to approval, respect, recognition, being seen, why aren't these measurements of success? I am so excited I finally got a chance to speak to the new generation of men. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 42/100: The Hot Asian

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all walks of life about gender roles, expectations from society and how that affects our self worth.

This month we are taking a special focus on men's mental health, sponsored by Tethr, The world’s first online, peer-to-peer support community connecting men for open and honest conversations about life. And this week I'm highlighting the many different lives of Asian men.

Masked Man #42 is the Hot Asian. On the search for what media would deem a hot asian man, I found a health and body transformation coach living in Bangkok and in this interview discovered he was from Toronto and learned how differently he was brought up than what we would consider typical Asian. Even though we come from very different places, we were able to deeply relate about similar experiences.

We learn about what it's like being raised by a strong Asian mother figure with three boys. And I get a glimpse of what it's like living in Thailand, and it makes me really reflect on the entitled behaviours of tourists that visit these hot destinations, especially with exotic services there. And what men do with money, and what women do for money. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Masked Man 41/100: The Foster Dad

Hello and welcome back to the Miss Amanda Chen Show. We’re now in Season 2 of the 100 Masked Men series, where I anonymously interview different men from all around the world  about what masculinity means to them, gender expectations and how that affects how they interact with women.

This month we are taking a special focus on men's mental health, sponsored by Tethr, The world’s first online, peer-to-peer support community connecting men for open and honest conversations about life. This week I'm interviewing men that are challenging gender norms, with a special focus on fatherhood.

Masked Man #41 is the Foster Dad. As a man that was brought up without strong parental figures, he found himself navigating through parenthood himself when he was left alone to raise  a 12 year old girl. We get into depth about the foster care system, and how he's been able to give women space to be heard and understood.

I think the most interesting aspect of this conversation is my own struggle in challenging gender norms. I am very quick to state the way things are, but how often do we have a conversation about doing things differently? I was reminded about that today. Let's get into it. I hope you enjoy the show.
