EXCUSES. Benjamin Franklin once said, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” There are major life commitments we cannot afford to make excuses for in order to escape from. The primary area excuses negatively impact us is our in spiritual lives. What God expects of us is usually excused away at the expense of unsatisfactory outcomes. Gladly accepting and following what God wants for our lives will lead to a satisfaction and contentment for our souls that cannot be experienced without Him. OTHERS. I don't think you can fully enjoy LIFE until you understand the importance of being others-centered. With all the self-importance, self-obsession, self-absorption, and self-centeredness being paraded around us, it's a daily battle to consider others as more important than yourself. FREEDOM. The greatest freedom any human can experience is the release from inner guilt, shame, and condemnation. While we all search for ways to free ourselves, only God can truly liberate. SUFFERING. It's all around us. We've all experienced pain in our lives. We wrestle trying to understand why horrible things happen to us and those around us. Why does suffering exist in our world? Is there a purpose to suffering that we haven't recognized? How can we navigate the painful circumstances that have to happen to us and discover healing and wholeness that may be a part of those experiences? RESPONSE. The quality of our lives is based not so much on WHAT happens to us but HOW we respond to what happens to us. 2020 held some valuable lessons for us, but many missed out on those lessons because of wrong responses to various circumstances. 2021 will hold many more opportunities to learn, grow, mature, and flourish. FUTURE. As we prepare to exit 2020 and enter 2021, there is still so much that is uncertain in our lives. That uncertainty brings us fear and anxiety. But not everything future is uncertain and unknown. There ARE events that are GUARANTEED to happen and the question becomes: Are you ready? What are these future events? How can we prepare ourselves for the future? How does personal readiness for the future bring hope and peace to our lives? GOALS.   People love setting goals for themselves for the new year. Many of you already have some goals in mind for 2020. Some of you haven't even started thinking about next year and any resolutions yet. Wherever you may be with considering 2020, let me encourage you with some things to think about. There are no greater goals than SPIRITUAL goals for your life. If we don't stop and cultivate our heart/soul/spirit, then nothing else we do or focus on will matter nor bring deep satisfaction to our lives. Here's the most important question we can ask: What does God want for me? Tomorrow morning we'll consider some RESOLUTIONS God desires for every single person. I will introduce some spiritual realities that will make this coming year the best yet.
