For the second time in almost 3 years, Terri and Melissa are podcasting in the same room and it's....awkward. Despite the strange feeling of podcasting in person, the hangout was so fun. There was coffee, cocktails, walks, Pickleball and lots of laughs! We're trying out new segments- let us know what you think!

Terri & Melissa have got you covered. On today's episode, Melissa began her summer adventure- she & her husband are trying out living and working in a new state to see if it's a place they might want to retire in. They've already hit the ground running with hiking and biking, but getting into the work from home routine has been a bit tougher.
Terri's summer adventures have included balancing a social life in her new community with keeping out of the neighborhood drama, trying to find a space to work, while work is being done on the house and in the Always Be Learning Something (ABLS) spirit of the show has started to learn to drive a motorboat, which for her is fairly terrifying.
We talk about what to watch this summer, with Better Things & Pamela Adlon giving Melissa all the feels, the pros & cons of commercials. We let you know what we're(Terri) watching on TikTok, why Melissa prefers YouTube.

We continue our conversation with Susan Niebergall, an online strength coach. Today, we focus on the importance and beneficial effects of strength training for women over 50.
We discuss how the act of becoming strong in our bodies, affects our mindset and our confidence. Susan even credits the feeling of power in her body with making her feel strong enough to start a business after the age of 50.
We get into the specifics of how to begin an effective strength training practice - even without access to a personal trainer or a gym.
We concentrate on setting expectations, beginning with the basics and developing a practice with a focus on consistency and injury prevention; or how to modify your practice if you do have chronic injuries or health issues. There are so many options these days to begin strength training - and so many reasons to do begin now!

Thanks for listening to Mixing Up Midlife, a podcast for women in their 50's & beyond.
Susan Niebergall, an online strength coach, podcaster & author joins us to talk about her journey into becoming a strength coach in her 50's after years of yo-yo dieting. She educates us on the importance of protein, how we begin to lose muscle mass in our 30's, but it's not hopeless! We can begin building it back through strength training at any age and we don't have to be genetically gifted! Today's episode is part 1 of a two part series with Susan. We hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

Why would anyone want to "gate-keep" the genius that is Kate Bush? Stranger Things featured the 1985 classic in the Season 4 episode Dear Billy and then TikTok took over, with younger creators claiming they "own" Kate Bush and are gatekeeping the song. What does the term mean anyway? TikTok creator, PotterybyDanielle has a great response with suggestions of other iconic 80's musicians including Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos and Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs.
