There was no way that Dean could have anticipated that the sleepy little town wasn’t as idyllic as he had been led to believe, that the job entailed more than Chief Crowley would ever admit, that their lives were in mortal danger and oh, that’s right, the ghost of the last wizard who’d undertaken the post was now courting him.

So much for the simple life…

Dean must now decide by Lammas Night if he will banish or resurrect the ghost of Castiel – but no matter which way Dean decides, they still need to find out what happened to Castiel and why.

And will they be next?

In 2014, Dean Winchester led a raid on the asylum in Detroit where a Sam-wearing-Lucifer was waiting for him. Everyone knows what happened next: the Chitaquan soldiers who accompanied Dean died horribly at the hands of Lucifer’s minions while Lucifer murdered Dean in the garden below and warned the Dean from days past that no matter what he tried, he would always end up there. There were no survivors.

Or were there? This story picks up where “The End” leaves off, from Castiel’s perspective from inside the asylum, a twist of fate, and conditional divine intervention no one saw coming. It details what happens after Lucifer dies, Dean lives, and the world doesn’t actually stop turning. A canon-compliant “fix-it” fic for the Endverse and a Dean and Cas who deserved better.

Or: “The End” was not the End. This is the story of what came after.

He’s got a good life, good family, and doesn’t mind the one night stands with others who also haven’t found someone with their same soulmark. It isn’t until Sam shows Dean a picture of the pop-star Castiel – a celebrity infamous for hiding his soulmark among hundreds of other tattoos – that Dean thinks he may have found his soulmate. But how is he supposed to let a worldwide phenomenon know that they belong together – and will Castiel even care?
