MK Podquest

A New (Old) Era of Mortal Kombat Television begins again as we tackle Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm Episode 1. We get not one, but TWO Earthrealm invasions, multiple jet fighter battles, and at least 22 CYBERS. Also, Neal makes what he considers to be a strong, inarguable case that DotR is in fact a sequel to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation because he's a crazy person. That may be up for debate, but one thing for sure isn't: THIS AIN'T YOUR DADDY'S MORAL KOMBAT CARTOON SERIES, FUCKO! Round 3 of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is here! Now, we know what you're thinking: "Where's Round 2?" Sadly, Round 2 was condemned to the Netherrealm when Neal's audio fell victim to a particularly heinous FATALITY, forcing us to re-record an entire episode about the MK Annihilation novelization; a book that is only marginally better than the film. But it ain't all bad, we also give a little primer on what to expect when we start talking about the klassic 1996 animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm NEXT WEEK so start getting hyped for a truly wild time, and until then: Go watch Mortal Kombat: Conquest on HBO Max Follow MK Podquest on Twitter @MKPodquest and Instagram  SUPPORT THE SHOW AT KO-FI.COM/MKPODQUEST SUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE to catch up on episodes in the most ULTIMATE way possible Follow Corey on Twitter @mrcoreyprice Follow Neal on Twitter @finalneal and Instagram @finalnealretro Subscribe to Corey's other podcast, 'They Made Another One?!', and follow TMAO?! on Twitter @theymadeanother Special  thanks to Sarah G for her voice work - follow her on Instagram @moongladeshika --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mkpodquest/message

This Podcast was created in six days, so too shall it be DESTROYED. And on the seventh day, podcasting will rest... in peace! We feel thoroughly ANNIHILATED by this film. Fortunately we had our friend Jeff Hersheway (@HershAlltheWay on twitter), co-host of the Oscar Buzzkills podcast, along for the ride (through the center of the earth in a Velosphere). Damn this movie is insane.

This week we're taking a trip back to Zhu Zin with our friend, Emmy Nominee Ben Mekler, host of Mortal Podkast, to challenge everything he thought he knew about Mortal Kombat lore by taking him through the first SIX episodes of Mortal Kombat: Conquest from the perspective of The Great Kung Lao. This episode was first released to subscribers of the Mortal Podkast Patreon, but unlike that version, THIS one includes the Podquest Anthem: Monk Krumble Remix. We'll be back next week to talk about Mortal Kombat: Annihilation but until then: Go watch Mortal Kombat: Conquest on HBO Max Follow MK Podquest on Twitter @MKPodquest and Instagram  SUPPORT  THE SHOW AT KO-FI.COM/MKPODQUEST or ANCHOR.FM/MKPODQUEST/SUPPORT Follow Ben on Twitter @benmekler and subscribe to Mortal Podkast SUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE to catch up on episodes in the most ULTIMATE way possible Follow  Corey on Twitter @mrcoreyprice Follow  Neal on Twitter @finalneal  and Instagram @finalnealretro Subscribe to Corey's other podcast, 'They Made  Another One?!', and follow TMAO?! on Twitter @theymadeanother Special thanks to Sarah G for her voice work - follow her on Instagram @moongladeshika --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mkpodquest/message

In round 3(!) of our discussion of Mortal Kombat (1995), we dive into the official novelization written by Martin Delrio IF THAT IS THEIR REAL NAME (it's not) and learn about everybody's favorite Mortal Kombat characters Crimmins, Bill, Other Bill, Pete, and Jesse.

In round 2 of our discussion of Mortal Kombat (1995), we get to talk about all the sweet ninja fights and Johnny Cage pulls a sick prank on Goro. Also Earthrealm is saved and stuff… OR IS IT?!?

We've arrived at the next stop on our journey: Mortal Kombat (1995). A film Neal once described as "perfect" and Corey once described as "a movie I've seen once or twice." Now with all of this MK Conquest lore in our brains, we dive into the cinematic DIRECT SEQUEL to see how it holds up to deep analysis and scrutiny. We had so much to say we needed to make this one a two-parter, so come back next week for part 2 of our discussion. Until then:

Hoooo boy we stumbled onto a CGI boat and are in uncharted waters, sailing towards the next chapter in the timeline - Mortal Kombat: They Journey Begins. We get to see a version of our boy Kung Lao, and his encounter with Goro, and also try to piece together the Scorpion and Sub-Zero lore, but mostly we just really really REALLY miss talking about the Kombat Krew.

It's time to say goodbye to Mortal Kombat: Conquest, and look towards the future. But damn it, we're sending the show off right by playing some messages sent in by listeners, talking about the official Mortal Kombat timeline and the events that happen between Conquest and the first film, and even receive a couple of special messages from QUAN CHI and KUNG LAO!

First and foremost, thank you to all of our listeners and everybody who sent in a message - you all are the best!

And holy moly, huge thanks to Adoni Maropis and Paolo Montalban for your amazing generosity!

Our journey through MK Conquest may be over, but THE SHOW GOES ON! Stay tuned next week where we'll be discussing Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins, and definitely talking a lot about missing the Kombat Krew. Until then:
