Running is the single most important thing a fighter can do besides technical skills training. Ive coached too many fighters at every level of the sport of MMA to sit by and let fighters get in the cage without a regular running routine.
Whether youre training for a fight or a flag football game, learn how running can help you level up your game. It may not be the perfect exercise for aerobic gains, it may be hard on your knees, and it sure as hell is boring (to me!), but it’s the best thing an athlete can implement into a training regiment.

Kamuela and Santino are back and talking MMA after a long hiatus due to the Covid craziness!
It's great to be back in the studio and recording again!
The duo starts out talking about Santino's upcoming trip to Abu Dhabi's Fight Island, where Santino will be cornering Tracy Cortez and the Korean Zombie, Chang Sung Jung. Then they talk about the topic of the century (or Santino, anyway)--Israel Adesenya's performance, and something very conspicuous (separate from the fight), and the possibility of Paulo Costa being injured leading up to the fight. Do you think that made a difference in the outcome of the fight?
They then go on to discuss the main event fights over the next few weeks on Yas Island: Holm vs. Aldana, Sandhagen vs. Moraes, Korean Zombie vs. Brian Ortega, and Khabib vs. Gaethje.

Don't miss this episode with Kamuela and Santino--it may be the very best episode yet. The dynamic duo talk about the UFC fights in Jacksonville, and all of the controversial stoppages (and non-stoppages) as well as the judging and how the dynamic of fight week was completely different due to the Covid pandemic and the lack of crowd.
Santino was there cornering two fighters, and he gives an inside look into the "new normal" for UFC fights for the foreseeable future.
They then give their picks for the all-time p4p MMA GOAT due to the tornado Conor Mcgregor stirred up on twitter recently with his GOAT pics.
After that, Santino gives his betting pics for the upcoming card (he's 9-2 over the last week of fights and is on a $ making roll!).
If you love MMA, and want an inside perspective from a multiple time world champion coach (who trains a lot of the world's top fighters), you've come to the right place.

Here's part two of our Corona Virus lockdown podcast. Kamuela and I talk our fight picks for the card in Jacksonville, FL. If you want to hear more on training during lockdown and how the gym industry has been decimated by the lockdown, check out pt 1 of this segment (the previous episode).

It's been a while since we recorded a podcast! Covid-19 has made me busier than ever with having to train fighters during the lockdown, but I managed to get one in as UFC 249 approaches.
Kamuela and I talk about how impactful Covid-19 has been to the gym and fitness industry as a whole, and how weird it is training fighters for UFC fights during the time of social distancing. We then move on to UFC 249 in Jacksonville, FL, where we discuss the main events, and give our predictions for the fights.
Tune in. Have a listen, and enjoy. And, hopefully, this lockdown is over sometime soon!

Jordan Johnson joins me on this episode of Santino's World of MMA.
Jordan was an Illinois state champion and University of Iowa wrestler under Tom and Terry Brands before he transitioned to MMA, where he went 4-0 in the UFC before signing with the PFL, where he was the runner up in the $1 million light heavyweight tournament.
Jordan and I talk about his MMA career, which brought him to Arizona from Iowa to train at the MMA Lab. We talk about how he slept in a pantry, a travel trailer, a garage, and then trained with Vitor Belfort and Stipe Miocic.
In addition to fighting, we talk about social media, cooking--he's the best average cook there is--dressing like he's a middle-aged father in the 1990's and more.
Jordan's hilarious, but also a very hard worker. As a coach, I've rarely seen the dedication he brings to the room, or the intensity.

Santino and Kamuela talk about the upcoming fight between GOAT Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. Does Reyes athleticism give him the extra "it factor" needed to dethrone one of the best to ever step in the cage, or will Jones savvy technique and long reach be too much for the undefeated challenger?
Also, steroids are becoming a problem in the sport of MMA again. We thought we'd solved something with USADA coming into the UFC, but there are so many other organizations now that don't use the stringent testing agency to keep their athletes clean. Can something be done, or do we just have to deal with the cheaters?
Finally, Kamuela and Santino talk about weight cutting in the sport and how the ban on IV's for rehydration has effected the way athletes cut weight--they also go into great detail just how MMA fighters lose upwards of 25-30lb in a short period of time to tip the scales at a weight significantly less than what they walk around at on a daily basis.

World champion MMA trainer (trainer of Henry Cejudo, Tracy Cortez, Jordan Johnson, and more), Santino DeFranco, and rising MMA prospect, Kamuela Kirk talk about the most stacked MMA card of the year, complete with three title fights!
Before they break down the title fights, though, they have to talk about:
- The huge news of Frankie Edgar fighting the Korean Zombie (Kamuela was one of Zombie's main sparring partners for this fight).
- Alistair Overeem's insane cut that ripped his entire mouth open during his loss last weekend with only 4 seconds left in the fight.
- And the undercard of UFC 245, including Matt Brown vs Ben Saunders, and Santino's most anticipated fight of the year, Jose Aldo vs Marlon Moraes in a bantamweight barnburner.
The dynamic duo then breaks down the Nunes vs De Randamie fight, Max Holloway vs Alexander Volkanovski, and then the Colby Covington vs Kamaru Usman. All complete with who to bet on and how each fight will be won/lost.
Tune in and get ready for some MMA!
