'Moana' Live-Action Trailer Introduces Dwayne Johnson’s Maui

Disney has debuted the first official trailer for the live-action reimagining of Moana, hitting theaters in July 2026[12][13]. The footage provides the first full look at Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reprising his role in live-action as the shapeshifting demigod Maui[12]. The trailer highlights Maui's signature tattoos, animal transformations, and a flowing head of hair, while also introducing newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana[12][14][15]. Fans were also treated to glimpses of returning fan-favorite elements, including the villainous Te Kā and the giant crab Tamatoa.
