Katrina Shaw is a registered psychologist and founding partner of MenzLeague, the corporation we recently partnered with. We decided to bring her on for many reasons, of them being: (1) she frequently works with men in her therapeutic practice, (2) she is a part of a mens organization which are more commonly found to be men only, and (3) she brings forth a both a psychologists perspective and also a women's voice to the conversation surrounding mens mental health, which we believe brings immense value to the development of men becoming better men.

Self-love is a concept we have discussed in many separate episodes but have yet to give the concept its own space. And, from what we have experienced, self-love, or lack thereof, plays a huge role in our mental health as men. Unfortunately, the challenge we face is that loving ourselves seems weak, vulnerable, confusing, and honestly, a waste of time. So then why is it important? Why give it an entire podcast episode? Download, click play, and find out!

From the very beginning, we here at Modern Maskulinity have been on the constant pursuit of the why behind what we do as men in this world, and in true Modern Mask fashion, we wanted to introduce you to the why behind what we do here and how it has evolved. Within that why, we have always been focused on not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk, which stems from our desire to not only bring you conversations, but to also bring you opportunities and resources to take the talk and turn it into action.
With that being said, we are very excited, proud, and honoured to introduce to you our brand new partnership with MENZLEAGUE!

In so many ways, timing is everything, and 5 years later in true Kendrick Lamar fashion, a new album is released speaking deeply about masculinity and mens mental health. And when we really started to dive deep into the lyrics, especially in the song "Father Time", we thought, "did he write this for the podcast?!" Or maybe the podcast for was written for him... either way, this album represents almost perfectly what we are here trying to actively to do - to help men understand themselves more clearly, to create a safe space for men to seek out help, to address the challenges we face as men in this world, and to find and create opportunities to help us become better men.

One of the greatest challenges we face as men is the disconnection we have with our own emotions. We know that it comes from being told "boys don't cry", "man up", and "don't be a pussy" when we were little lads... but have we ever considered what kind of emotions that version of us was experiencing? What would happen if we could time travel and talk to that little boy - what would we say? What would HE say? What was he going thru in those moments, and what did he truly need? And what if we could heal this part of us? What would be possible then?
This episode was Inspired by the movie, "The Adam Project", by Ryan Reynolds, available on Netflix!

The influence of porn is substantial in our society, and access has only become easier. Unfortunately, the negative affects of porn on our psyche and what we believe is "real sex" are also substantial. Men, it's time to talk. This is one of the most important conversations we have because sex is a huge topic in our lives, and yet something we rarely ever talk about with full honesty. We go deep, we share very vulnerable truths + hilarious stories, and we share our take on how to go about changing our own perspectives towards sex + how to start thinking about the next generation.
