This week on the podcast the tables are turned on Terri. Instead of hosting this episode, Terri is the guest on the podcast starring guest host Auroosa K. who's guest hosted with Terri before on "Motherhood, I wasn't Prepared for This!" and "A Whole Brain Child Review". On this episode, we are talking about interfaith and interracial marriages. 

Terri, who is a Pakistani Muslim, is married to Jeremy who is a Catholic Canadian. Together they have 2 children and instead of choosing one religion, they have decided to raise their kids in a dual faith home. While they are both not practicing their religions, the values that come from the religions are important to both. We talk to Terri about what it's like being in an interfaith relationship with Jeremy, how they first met and began dating and the obstacles and challenges they have faced along the way because of their decision to raise the kids with both religions and cultures. 

This is part one of the podcast, we will be back later this week with part 2 where we discuss the fears and challenges of interfaith relationships and the impact Terri fears and suspects it may have on her kids in the future.

This week on the podcast we bring on the better half of the podcast duo from Success in Black and White on the show. 

April, who is Caucasian, is married to Darryl, who is African American. They live in sunny Florida and together are a power duo, with 2 beautiful kids, successful jobs and hosting a great podcast called Success in Black and White. April comes on the show to talk about her experience as a woman in an interracial relationship. We dive into how they first met, how their relationship transpired and the challenges they have faced along the way because of their interracial relationship status. From questions, stares, comments that have come along the way from various people, to racism and to the fears of being a Black man in the US today, we discuss it all. We talk about what it's like raising children in an interracial household and what fears come to mind for the kids future.

This episode dives into some serious topics and reality of our world today for people in interracial relationships. We don't hold back and share both our experiences as being part of interracial relationships.

This week, we invited Auroosa back on the show to co-host the episode and review with Terri one of their favourite parenting books; The Whole Brain Child by neuroscientist Daniel J. Seigel and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson. 

The Whole Brain Child is a best selling parenting book, packed with multiple strategies to help parents nurture their child's developing mind. We talk about what we loved about the book and how we applied it with our kids. We discuss the key takeaways from our perspective from the book that would be beneficial to our audience, along with taking up some of the examples and theories shared in the book. 

We talk about how the book helps parents take away difficult parenting times and turn them into teachable moments and how to help your child use the different parts of their brain to work together. Within this, we discuss how to integrate the left and right brain as well as the upstairs and downstairs brain to work together as a whole. 

We also look at how traumas can be discussed with your children in age appropriate ways, as explained by the authors. 

One of the examples we share from our personal lives is Terri and her son's experience with learning about Momo, and how she used the learnings from this book to help guide her son into navigating stress that's created by the Momo discovery.

This week we are talking to therapist Johanna Lynn who specializes in inter-generational trauma and family inherited trauma. Johanna has been working as a therapist for the past 20 years and brings immense experience and knowledge to the podcast. We discuss how we are very much organized by the experiences of our families, which in turn has an impact on what we carry forward from our past and into our relationships today.

Terri gets vulnerable about a common argument her and her husband get into and how its interconnected with her history and something she lacked growing up.
