For many years Angela Engel worked in sales and marketing for nationally known category leaders in publishing, including Chronicle Books, Cameron + Company, Dwell Studio, and Moleskine. She has sold to key national and international retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Nordstrom, and Target and became a sought-after expert in the industry.
But motherhood pulled her in a different direction. Today, Angela is the Founder of The Collective Book Studio, a full-service, partnership publisher that has disrupted the publishing industry. Shannon Kenny Carbonell is a former actress and author of the memoir "All is Not LOST" which is a book for every mom who's ever felt lost or stuck in that "what's next for me?" moment, which I think we've all gone through at one or many points in our lives.
She is also the wife of actor Nestor Carbonell of LOST, Bates Motel, and The Morning Show fame and a mom to a 15 and 19 year old.
When her kids were young, Shannon made the hard decision to give up her own acting career in favor of her husband's career and full-time motherhood. No matter how painful, she knew she was making the better choice for her and her family. Just like the LOST survivors, she had crashed on an island that would test her, heal her, and surround her with the people who would eventually show her the way home.
Shannon shares raw and honest stories of her experience and lessons learned from taking a pause on her career, having to rediscover her identity, and filling that void within her. We also talk about relationships, communication, life as an actor, and dealing with resentment.

How many times do we say "I'm sorry" in our day? Or tell our kids to apologize and say "sorry" after everything they do wrong? Or even do things they might not feel comfortable doing in that moment like FaceTime the grandparents or give a friend a hug? We sometimes guilt ourselves and our children to do things we might not want to do just to please the other party. These habits are learned at a young age.
In today's episode, Annie Henderson and I talk about how to end mom guilt and stop being a people pleaser, what it's like to co-parenting with parent of opposite views, and how social media has helped her create a safe space, community and support for Christian LGBTQ+ and allies.
Annie grew up as a people pleaser and did not come out of the closet until she was in her late 20s after getting married and having a baby. Annie now has a partner of 9 years and a 14 year old daughter. She lives in Texas and is a Life Coach, Counselor, EFT Practitioner and Coming Out Coach for LGBTQ+ and families struggling with their child coming out and need some guidance along the way.
She has also partnered with her church to create a safe space for LGBT and Allies on Facebook because they know how much the church has hurt the LGBT community and are wanting to provide a safe, judgement free and affirming space.

Kenise Etwaru is an executive leadership coach, women's empowerment strategist, entrepreneur, best selling author and motivational speaker. However, above all these successes, her greatest pride and joy is being a mom to an 11 year old daughter.
When her daughter was 2, Kenise became a single mom overnight and the sole provider. While she had a full-time job and was financially independent, Kenise was bored and started looking to start something new on her own. Slowly, she started consulting on top of her 40-hour a week "day job" and as a full-time single mom.
That consulting side hustle turned into multiple more streams of income - from coaching to HR training to book publishing to singing and piano playing, Kenise quit her day job and today has created 7 income streams for herself.
In this episode we talk about how to develop multiple income streams, how to rebrand yourself (physically), and how to transition from being an employee to taking your side hustle to a full-time business. We also chat about her daughter's new book called Be You. Be Cool. Be Kind, which is all about bullying and how Kenise is teaching her daughter to be financially responsible.

I think it's safe to say the word "overwhelm" might have been the word of the year for moms in 2020; however, as we move forward in mid-2021, it's the word that should be banished from our vocabulary. But how do you get rid of overwhelm from your vocabulary and your life?
Jennifer Blossom is a boy mom of two, occupational therapist, and the CEO and Founder of Blossoming Moms, a digital wellness brand that helps overwhelmed moms simplify motherhood using healthy habits and simple strategies.
She is also the host of the top-rated mom podcast, The Blossoming Moms Show, and lives in a little fishing town with her husband and sons just south of Anchorage, Alaska.
In today's episode Jennifer and I talk about how she had to get scrappy in order to create her online business from a little town in Alaska; she shares tangible tips on how to overcome and banish overwhelm as a mom, important rituals and practices every mom should implement daily and how to shift your mindset to get clear on what's important in this season of motherhood.

This episode with Bethany Braun-Silva was a good reminder that it is okay to take a week off. It is okay to take time to stop and think about what your goals are in life. And it is okay to focus on your career even if you have young kids.
Bethany has 2 boys and lives in NYC. In her off hours you can find her on-air showcasing some of the latest and greatest parenting products, side note - she shares one of her favorite summer products in the episode, or talking all about working motherhood.
Because I batch my podcast episodes, this episode was recorded in February so at the time Bethany was the editor at Parenting.com. Since then she has moved over to be the Senior Content Strategist at What to Expect and is still living her dream in the parenting and lifestyle space.
In this episode we talk all about taking a week off just to herself, how to discover and connect to your passions, finding freelance jobs as a mom and her journey as a career-driven full-time working mom.
