  • How to Ensure that in 2022, No Dem is Left Behind
The GOP has given up on persuading voters to support them for their policies and ideas -- because they've overwhelmingly unpopular. So they have doubled down on rigging the system via voter suppression and gerrymandering. This does not bode well for the 2022 midterms, when Democrats must defy conventional wisdom and increase their congressional majorities, as well as their showing in statehouses around the country.
The MOMocrats welcome Richard Ojeda, national spokesperson for No Dem Left Behind, a grassroots organization that is doing its part to combat this by organizing and elevating Democrats in America's rural communities.
Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills will also talk about the week's news.

  • MOMocrats MOMochat: A Fitful Recovery
The administration released new jobs numbers today, and analysts were disappointed - but only because they were expecting a whopping 1 million news jobs and were faced with a more normal 266,000. In a classic case of "glass half empty or half full," conservatives are spinning this as proof that enhanced unemployment benefits are making people too lazy to find work again, while progressives are pointing out that employers who don't offer a living wage should have trouble filling job openings. And then there's the fact that economic recoveries don't occur in straight upward lines.
MOMocrats Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about the numbers, as well as the assault on voting rights, Republicans in disarray, and the Facebook board's decision to kick the Trump question back to the company.

  • President Biden's First 100 Days
President Biden gave his first joint address to Congress this week, marking a successful first 100 days in office - and viewers polled afterwards indicated that it was a stunning success. MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills reflect on the new Administration's successes in positioning the country away from the mess made by "the former guy." They will also talk about continuing woes of Rudy Giuliani and Matt Gaetz.

  • A Measure of Accountability
The jury in the Derek Chauvin murder case found the former Minneapolis policeman guilty on all counts - but as relieved as most of the nation was, it was not a moment of joy.
"I would not call today's verdict justice, however, because justice implies true restoration," Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said. "But it is accountability, which is the first step towards justice, and now the cause of justice is in your hands."
Chauvin would likely never have gone to trial without the video showing him callously asphyxiating George Floyd to death. And it remains dangerous to go about doing everyday things in this country if you are a Black American. As the jury announced their verdict, 16-year-old Ma'Kiyah Bryant was shot to death by a cop in Columbus, Ohio. And two days later, the funeral was held for 20-year-old Daunte Wright, who lost his life after being pulled over for expired license tags --  just a few miles from the site where Floyd died.
MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss the trial and its aftermath, as well as some reasons for optimism in the United States under President Joe Biden: continued success in fighting COVID-19, a renewed commitment to combating climate change, and a sunny economic forecast fueled by Biden's people-first policies.

  • It's Infrastructure Week. For Real, This Time.
President Biden unveiled his new plan to shore up the country's deteriorating infrastructure - and we finally understand what he meant by "Build Back Better." The $2 Trillion bill allocates funds for fixing roads and bridges, expanding our rail network, replacing toxic water infrastructure, upgrading school structures, closing the broadband gap in underserved parts of the country, and beginning the much-needed shift to clean energy. And he proposes to pay for it by partially erasing the Trump tax cuts on wealthy people and corporations.
Like the American Rescue Plan COVID relief bill, this proposal is popular with voters - including Republican ones.
MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss the new bill, as well as the Derek Chauvin murder trial, and this week's gift that keeps on giving: the sex with underage minors scandal that some have dubbed "Pizza Gaetz."

  • A Mixed Bag of Both Good News and Bad
This week has been one of good news and bad news. The Biden Administration has overseen the administration of 100 million COVID vaccines - 40 days sooner than the President originally promised. However, the new, more dangerous variants of the virus appear to have stemmed the progress the nation has made in stemming the pandemic, and there are new hot spots around the country.
The House has passed Biden's sweeping immigration plan, which includes a path to citizenship for DREAMERS and migrant farm workers. In the meantime, the anti-immigration right has seized upon a surge of unaccompanied minors and some border crossings and deemed it a "crisis at the border." It's not - but those are the official talking points this week.
And a horrific mass murder in Georgia has highlighted this country's ongoing problem with hatred of our fellow Americans who are of Asian descent, which was exacerbated by Trumpian description of COVID as the "China virus," etc.

  • President Biden's American Rescue Plan is a Big Effing Deal
When Joe Biden was Vice President, he proclaimed the Affordable Care Act a "big effing deal."
Now that he's President, Biden has a BFD of his own - and is on track to be the most transformative Democratic president since FDR.
MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills look back on an exceptional week 50 days into the Biden presidency, when the American Rescue Plan was enacted into law, the timeline for getting Americans vaccinated was shortened by a couple of months -- and Merrick Garland was finally sworn in as Attorney General.

  • The Senate Debates a Rescue
The Senate has President Biden's $1.9T American Rescue Plan and the GOP are throwing all the delay tactics they can at it, but in the end this extremely popular bill will pass. In the meantime, the Fox News crowd is obsessed with the lie that the Democrats have cancelled the Muppets and Dr. Seuss... and a second insurrection on March 4 did not materialize. However, the threat is still there and the National Guard is likely to remain in DC for at least another two months.
MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss this and the latest COVID news on this week's podcast from a progressive point of view. Part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • President Biden's Bipartisanship Isn't What Ted Cruz Thinks It Is
The parliamentarian has spoken and she says a $15 per hour minimum wage can't be enacted through reconciliation. The rest of the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package can be passed in the Senate with a simple majority, which means that help to the American people and state and local governments will soon be on its way.
And a raise in the minimum wage will occur too - but first, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema may have to be browbeaten into a vote to end the filibuster.
MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss the drama in the Senate, as well the week's other political news in this week's Pursuit of Happiness Hour - part of the Demcast family of podcasts.
