  • Forget the Website: Obamacare Is Working
Yes, the failure of the Healthcare.gov website that was supposed to make it easy to enroll in an affordable healthcare plan IS a debacle. But online is only ONE path to enrollment: and Americans can sign up by calling 1-800-318-2596.
In the meantime, the Center for American Progress reports that lower than projected premiums under the ACA will save the federal government $190 billion and increase the law's deficit reduction to almost $300 billion. (per ThinkProgress.org.)
MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss the Obamacare rollout and other political news in their weekly political chat.

  • 50 Years of Tea Party Politics
The radicals who shut down our government and threatened the world economy are following a blueprint set about over 6- years ago by the John Birch Society.
This week we are re-running Karoli's interview with Claire Conner, author of Wrapped in the Flag: A Personal History of America's Radical Right (disclosure: link contains MOMocrats' Amazon affiliate code).
We have been told by some of our listeners that this was the most important podcast we've aired all year.
Conner's parents were leaders of the John Birch Society.
"In the 1960's, the John Birch Society was the largest, most effective and most powerful radical right wing group in the United States," Claire says.
"They developed many of the techniques the radical right uses today. They were the first right wing organization to use mass activity directed at specific outcomes. So, just like the Tea Party focused on Obamacare, the John Birch Society invented the concept of getting all of their membership moving in the same direction. So in that sense, they really are the grandfather of today's Tea Party. They also are the grandfather of today's Tea Party in terms of ideology."

  • Run, Mama Run: Eloise Gomez Reyes
The government shutdown rolls into a second week, with debt ceiling default looming as the biggest economic threat since Lehman Brothers. MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills would rather talk about positive politics: like how much GOOD Obamacare has done in only one week, despite the well-documented glitches on the government website.
The MOMocrats also debut the latest version of Run, Mama Run, the group's spotlight on progressive Democratic WOMEN running for office on all levels of government. They kick off RMR by interviewing attorney Eloise Gomez Reyes, Congressional Candidate in California's 31st  District.

  • Can't Shut Obamacare Down
The government shutdown could not derail yesterday's debut of insurance exchange open enrollment in the Affordable Care Act. But overwhelming demand for affordable health insurance did result in system crashes and long waits for individual plans. Fortunately, the uninsured have until December 15 to enroll and make their first premium payment.
Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about the day's historic developments in this week's political chat with the MOMocrats.

  • WA's Prop 522: The Fight to Label GMOs
Last year, a ballot proposition calling for labels of genetically modified food was overwhelmingly popular with California voters. It wound up being narrowly defeated, thanks to a tremendous outpour of money from the Big Food companies.   That was round one. Round two is taking place now in Washington State, where 350,000 residents signed a petition to get a GMO labeling initiative on the November ballot. Will they win -- or be bulldozed once again by companies that would rather keep you in the dark?   Our guest this week is Leah Segedie, who leads the online health community, Mamavation. Leah is one of the social media professionals organizing a public awareness campaign to combat the big bucks lobbying of the food industry on this issue.   Weekly political discussion from the progressive POV, hosted by the MOMocrats. • Emmy Talk! with Agents of Zeitgeist
The Fall TV season continues its gradual rollout this week, and Agents Anne Louise Bannon, Elise Crane Derby and Donna Schwartz Mills all have something to say about that.
But before you go to something new, we still have an opportunity on Sunday to honor the best television achievements of the season just ended. Believe it or not, Bob Newhart just received his very first Emmy award 51 years after his first nomination. Who do you think is going to win?
