  • Recapping the GOP Debate from a Progressive Point of View
The crowded GOP field is providing as much drama as NBC's The Apprentice - especially with The Donald leading the charge. Of course, the MOMocrats watched last night's debate - after all, until Sunday's Emmys mark the start of the Fall season, this series of clown car collisions is about the only thing worth watching on television. Did Carly get back at Trump for making that remark about her face? Did neurosurgeon Ben Carson let slip another anti-science tirade that defines cognitive dissonance? Did Chris Christie and Scott Walker get a word in edgewise? And what about the kids table? MOMocrats Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss from a progressive point of view. Produced by Engender Media Group.

  • Obama Proves Again There's No Such Thing as a Lame Duck
President Obama continues to be the most effective "lame duck" elected official in history: It looks like the deal his administration negotiated with Iran and the other world powers will go into effect without Congressional disapproval. Also on the MOMocrats' agenda today: Kim Davis, the Syrian refugee crisis - and continuing coverage of the 2016 race. Political discussion from the progressive point of view, by MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills. An Engender Media Group production.

  • K12NN Special: Prof. Wayne Au & Unconstitutional Charter Schools In WA State
The WA State Supreme Court ruled recently that charter schools created under the new education law I-1240 were unconstitutional. They do not fit under the definition of public schools ("common schools") as defined in the state constitution -- they do not have publicly elected governing bodies and aren't subject to the control of voters.Wayne Au was a plaintiff in the lawsuit that challenged I-1240 and is here to talk with us today. Wayne Au is an Associate Professor of education at the University of Washington, Bothell and an editor for the social justice education magazine, Rethinking Schools.Read more about the Washington State Supreme Court's decision here, the decision itself here, and here.

  • MOMocrats MOMochat's Last Summer Podcast: Hillary Clinton Gefilte Fish Edition
Next week, Congress gets back to work and their first order of business is to vote on the President's Iran deal. But right now, we're finishing up with one of the silliest political silly seasons in memory. Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about a hodgepodge of topics this week: The President's trip to Alaska, the Sarah Palin interview of Donald Trump on a rinky-dink right-wing website, Carly Fiorina's probable graduation from the GOP Kids' table...and the drip-drip-drip of Hillary Clinton's emails.

  • The Summer of Trump
How radical is Donald Trump's immigration plan? It would gut the 14th Amendment. And other GOP candidates are jumping on his bandwagon. To be fair, only Scott Walker has echoed Trump's sentiment on this so far, and other, more "grown-up" candidates like Jeb Bush and Lindsay Graham have pushed back on this idea. But the GOP likely voters responding to polls are eating Trump's antics up, so we ask: how long will it be before this becomes an official part of the Republican platform? MOMocrats Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss the electoral landscape from a progressive point of view.

  • MOMocrats MOMochat: After Seattle: #BlackLivesMatter & Changing Presidential Campaign Platforms
On the table for today: many white progressives  and other allies in Seattle found themselves challenged by the confrontational behavior of Marissa Janae Johnson and Mara Willaford, two #BlackLivesMatter organizers who disrupted Bernie Sanders' planned campaign rally on Medicaid and Social Security this past weekend. When resentment of the disruption turned to epithets and shouting down the women, the activists responded by pointing out the very white supremacy within white progressive circles they were challenging. Looking at the long-term impact of their actions, not long after they disrupted the event, the Sanders campaign posted a more detailed platform on racial justice. In Los Angeles, the in-the-works hiring of a national press secretary, #BlackLivesMatter activist Symone Sanders, meant that she introduced Sanders at his SoCal appearance and will handle press going forward. An Engender Media Group production.

  • Pass the Popcorn: Previewing the GOP Debate with the MOMocrats
Ten candidates will duke it out Thursday night in Cleveland for the first GOP debate, and it promises to be a doozy! Especially since Fox News has relegated at least six other serious Republican contenders to an overflow event that starts earlier in the day, which critics have dubbed "the kids' table." MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills preview the event and talk about the chances of a bloodbath between front runner Donald Trump and equally bombastic contenders like Chris Christie. Pass the popcorn. It's early enough in the race that we can be entertained instead of frightened.

  • Planned Parenthood Under Attack - Again
Two weeks ago, a shadowy group the Center for Medical Progress released a deceptively edited "sting" video against Planned Parenthood, which has become the opening salvo in yet another battle to defund the non-profit provider of reproductive health services. This week, the GOP in the Senate unveiled a bill that they hope will "ACORN" the group once and for all. MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli, and Donna Schwartz Mills weigh in. • What Happens at Netroots Nation Gets Heard Around the Country
The MOMocrats took time off last week to attend Netroots Nation in Phoenix, Arizona - where they met and learned from progressive activists from around the country. Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills report back on the newsworthy demonstration by #BlackLivesMatter and #SpeakHerName, which disrupted the planned Town Hall with Democratic candidates Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders... as well as Elizabeth Warren's keynote, women's leadership issues, the latest attack on Planned Parenthood, education panels and more.
