Today on the news, a rundown of local preparedness measures regarding COVID-19. Grand County schools are currently transitioning to a remote learning system after Utah’s Governor ordered a two-week hiatus from in-person instruction. Volunteers are mobilizing to help elderly residents at risk of infection and those in need of quarantine supplies. And, health department officials say they’re concerned about Moab’s continued visitation because “with people comes disease.” Later in the news, Public Lands Corner explores locals’ connections to public lands through the framework of coronavirus preparedness.

Moab Regional Hospital has a 24/7 CORONAVIRUS HOTLINE (435-719-3998) that you can call if you are experiencing mild to moderate flu-like symptoms (fever or cough) or have been around anyone known to have COVID-19. If you are experiencing severe flu-like symptoms (i.e. difficulty breathing), please go to the Emergency Department. CALL BEFORE YOU ARRIVE: 435-719-3998.
Grand County –
Beginning Monday, March 16th Grand County will begin to provide home delivery assistance to persons at-risk for severe COVID-19, individuals who suspect that they may have contracted COVID-19, and individuals who have contracted COVID-19 with mild symptoms. At-risk is defined as being 60 years of age or older, and/or someone with pre-existing health conditions. If you need assistance with grocery and supply delivery, please call The Grand Center at 435-259-6623.
Community Sharing Program –
Local Dave Bierschied has volunteered to coordinate this program. If you have supplies (toilet paper, sanitizer, food etc.) that you would be willing to donate to those most in need please call or email him at 435-260-1968 or [email protected]. Likewise, if you are someone in dire need of supplies that are no longer available, please call or email Dave. Both offers of donations and requests for donations will be kept strictly confidential.
To-go meals for children under 18 years old –
Grand County Public Library will provide meals for children every day from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Center Street Ball Field. Please send one person to pickup meals for your children. When you arrive, please keep at least six feet between you and your neighbors.
