Todays episode is a reflection on white nationalism, white supremacy, capitalism and working class solidarity. The Upper Harbor Terminal Development sits just north of the Lowry Ave bridge that connects North and Northeast Minneapolis. Any honest discussion of the dynamics at play surrounding the UHT must deal with the legacy of segregation, violence and racism that has been central to history of these neighborhoods. Capitalism and White Supremacy are interconnected and mutually re-enforcing, we can't abolish one without abolishing the other. Solidarity Forever.
This episode, like all of our episodes, was beautifully produced by Isaac Specktor.

We sat down and talked with grandmother and community organizer from the Bottineau Neighborhood Nancy Przymus about the GAF Shingles Factory. Nancy has been engaged in deep research and organizing exposing the toxic pollution that spreads from the GAF Shingles Factory into the air of North and Northeast Minneapolis. The GAF sits directly next to the proposed Upper Harbor Terminal site. We talk about the history of the factory, the health impacts on the community, the politics of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Environmental Protection Act. Nancy also shares an inspiring vision of re-tooling the GAF and how the Upper Harbor Terminal Development presents an opportunity for a new type of industry on the Northside riverfront.

In today's episode we take a closer look at the billionaire Pohlad family and their company United Properties which currently has exclusive rights to develop 48 acres of publicly owned river front land in North Minneapolis. An Oligarchy is a form of government where a small group of ultra wealthy business people control public life, an oligarch is a member of that clique.
We provide a brief history of how Carl Pohlad accumulated the billions he passed on to his three sons, rundown all the real estate projects United Properties is involved in with the city of Minneapolis and pose these questions; why would the city give exclusive access to public land in North Minneapolis to one of the wealthiest white families in the nation? Shouldn't this be an opportunity for someone else to build wealth? Hope you enjoy today's episode, please rate and review the show and sign up on Patreon to support the work.
