The dark forest hypothesis is the conjecture that many alien civilizations exist throughout the universe, but they are both silent and hostile, maintaining their undetectability for fear of being destroyed by another hostile and undetected civilization. It is one of many possible explanations of the Fermi paradox, which contrasts the lack of contact with alien life with the potential for such contact. The hypothesis derives its name from Liu Cixin's 2008 novel The Dark Forest, although the concept predates the novel.

The story begins on August 2, 1993, in the Khamar Daban mountains of southern Siberia. A group of students visiting from Petropavl in Kazakhstan planned to hike from the shores of Lake Baikal and summit Kang-Ula.The seven hikers were Aleksander Kyrsin, 23; Tatyana Filipenko, 24; Denis Shvachkin, 19; Valentina Utochenko, 17; Viktoriya Zalesova, 16; Timur Bapanov, 15; and leader Lyudmila Korovina, 41. They were reportedly a tight-knit bunch of good friends. The group had done difficult hikes before, and all were physically fit. They also had a hiking legend in their midst. Lyudmila Korovina was a well-known survivalist with a strong will and excellent problem-solving skills. She even had the nickname of Master among those she led on expeditions. The event has been likened to the Dyatlov Pass incident, earning it the name "Buryatia's Dyatlov Pass".

Mount Shasta is a stratovolcano, or composite volcano, that reaches the soaring height of 4,322 meters (14,179 feet). Like other volcanos of this type, it has a more classic (almost caricaturized) conical shape, which is formed by four distinct overlapping volcanic cones. This makes it a striking and easily visible landmark which, complete with its snow-capped faces, is the ideal site for mountaineers, hikers, campers, and skiers alike.
But it has also long been the travel destination for more spiritually minded visitors who seek a less than conventional holiday. Every year, thousands of people descend on the mountain with the hope of communing with something beyond the terrestrial and geological.
There are tourist guides and attractions dedicated to meditation, vision quests, and other New Age activities that try to tap into the mountain’s various alleged spiritual hotspots. There are numerous bookshops offering the full range of metaphysical texts on healing, vibrations, crystals, angels, and so on, many of which claim to have connections to the mountain itself.  
The mountain is associated with various entities, including from Bigfoot to UFOs, and is even purported by some to have an underground civilisation beneath it.

A tulpa is a materialized being or thought-form, typically in human shape, that is created through spiritual practice and intense concentration. The term is borrowed from Tibetan Buddhism. Modern practitioners, who call themselves "tulpamancers", use the term to refer to a type of willed imaginary friend whom practitioners consider sentient and relatively independent. Modern practitioners predominantly consider tulpas a psychological rather than a paranormal phenomenon. The idea became an important belief in Theosophy.
The concept of tulpas has origins in the Buddhist nirmāṇakāya, translated in Tibetan as sprul-pa: The earthly bodies that a buddha manifests in order to teach those who have not attained nirvana. The western understanding of tulpas was developed by 20th-century European mystical explorers, who interpreted the idea independently of buddhahood.
