Reports indicate that the Canelo vs Plant Showtime PPV broadcast did over 800K total buys, generating more than $70M in gross revenue. Many American fans and media members, particularly those cozy with PBC, are claiming it was the Plant/Haymon/PBC side that sold the fight. Whereas most in the fight community recognize it was Canelo who drew the commercial success of the event. Nonetheless, the debate continues to play out over social media.

For what it's worth, Canelo's PPV fights with Gennady Golovkin sold 1.3M and 1.1M buys. His PPV with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr also did 1.1M, and Miguel Cotto did 900K. His PPV with Floyd Mayweather did 2.2M.
